Position Summary:
Nusano has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer with experience in radiological and mechanical systems to support the West Valley City Production Facility in Utah. This team member will provide support for the development of a heavy ion linear accelerator, solid and gaseous target stations, and radiochemistry equipment and machinery. The Systems Engineering team is responsible for developing system architecture using model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, gathering and managing technical requirements, coordinating interfaces, developing verification & validation (V&V) test plans, helping functional design teams integrate their work into the larger project, and assisting the scientific, engineering, and operations teams in transitioning the project into full production. This team member will have primary responsibility for coordinating mechanical system elements related to the production of radioisotopes for diagnostic and therapeutic medical use. These include beam stops, accelerator targets and their supporting structures, interfaces between the accelerator and the target stations, shielding, and material handling equipment.
What You'll Do:
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and architects
- Coordinate with functional design teams to capture, decompose, trace, and manage stakeholder needs and technical requirements
- Help develop technical specifications, interface control documents, and verification & validation test plans
- Assist functional design teams in integrating subsystem designs into the master scope and schedule, using project management and Systems Engineering tools
- Capture system architecture details through model-based Systems Engineering diagrams and viewpoints
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet standards such as safety and regulatory compliance
- Provide input to designs to improve quality, reliability, safety, usability, and performance
- Participate in design reviews and represent the interests of Systems Engineering
- Help create installation procedures, commissioning plans, operations manuals, work instructions, and other documentation
- Mentor and train team members on Systems Engineering best practices
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Experience in Systems Engineering, requirements management, or project management (2+ years)
- Demonstrated understanding of radiation safety and best practices for radioactive material handling
- Fully proficient with digital productivity tools (Microsoft Office products)
- Strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Experience working with a quality program and quality standards
Preferred Requirements:
- Master’s Degree or higher in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field
- Experience with MBSE tools and processes
- Experience with Requirements Management, PLM, ERP, or QMS tools
- Experience with MCNP, Attila, PHITS, or other radiation modeling software
- Experience with particle accelerator targetry
- Experience with hot cells, glove boxes, and other radioactive material handling
- Experience with chemical separation equipment such as ion exchange chromatography or electroplating
- Experience with root cause analysis, FMEA, and safety/risk assessment
- Experience working with safety or quality regulations such as Good Manufacturing Practices for pharmaceuticals (ICH Q7, 21 CFR 211, 21 CFR 212)
- Leadership experience

- Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Frequent use of computer with repetitive use of keyboard, mouse and manual dexterity
