Title: Systems Engineer – Controls and Software Diagnostics

Job Description:
We have a dynamic opportunity for an Engineer to support and manage core electronics and Software systems for advanced locomotive operation. This position will also support integration of new controls software and hardware designs thru concept to production. The engineer will interface with current locomotive operators and internal engineering teams to execute assigned projects with regard to diagnosing and resolving locomotive controls issues, across both controls hardware and Software problems. Additional experience with monitoring controls systems thru remote protocol a definite bonus.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot production issues raised by clients, identify the root cause of the issues, work with engineering teams and program management to identify next steps, update the client on status of issue resolution.
- Work with field service teams in a cross-functional, global environment to resolve customer technical issues with locomotive operations.
- Provide remote monitoring and support services for Wabtec Core Electronics hardware and Software products that are currently deployed on Railroad customer (client) locomotives.
- Trouble shoot issues and determine root cause for system failures.
- Use creativity to optimize and increase efficiency of the overall production for Locomotive controls systems.
Desired Skills:
- Hands-on experience in a remote diagnostics role involving daily monitoring of the operational health of remotely deployed engineering systems.
- Experience of working in engineering systems that involve Ethernet, TCP/IP, Short range/Long range wireless communication technology (WiFi, CDMA/GSM, etc.).
- Experience working with IT data warehouses/databases (Clarify, Access, SQL, etc.) to isolate & extract data pertinent to facilitate issue monitoring & resolution.
- Background in systems involving microprocessors & communication peripherals.
- Possess programming skills in Excel, VBscript, and/or Python scripting.
- Embedded programming and/or experience with real time operating systems (e.g. QNX, UNIX, LINUX command line manipulation).
- Hands-on capability to handle test equipment & tools (such as DOORS, scripting languages e.g. Perl, Visual Basic, DOS).
Qualifications/Requirements:
Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 1 to 2 years of related experience.
