Systems Engineer

University Advancement at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join the University Advancement Operations team as a Systems Engineer. The Systems Engineer is a key role responsible for developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting system integrations, and supporting multiple technology platforms for the University of Virginia Advancement Operations.
Key responsibilities:

• Maintain the integrity of the database of record.
• Aid in the analysis, design, creation, programming, and automation of routine as well as ad hoc data loads from various sources such as Student Information System (SIS), National Change of Address (NCOA), and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
• Provide support for advancement applications, such as Ellucian Advance, Salesforce CRM, and other associated applications.
• Aid in the implementation process of our system transformation to salesforce CRM by ensuring data integrity, data mapping, testing, validating, and integration.

This position will also be part of the on-call team which monitors various systems and scheduled processes. Experience with modern integration tools like Boomi, Mulesoft, Informatica, Jitterbit, or SSIS as well as with APIs is highly desired.
Strong candidates for this role will have a good technical foundation in building and optimizing data systems, a love of learning, an ability to develop relationships across reporting lines, and will enjoy working in an agile environment. Excellent candidates will be able to adapt their communication style from collaboration with technical colleagues, diverse subject matter experts, and leadership, to working directly with our partners for their data needs or troubleshooting their issues. Preference will be given to candidates with in-depth Salesforce experience (2+ years), particularly those with Salesforce Advanced Administrator and/or Platform App Builder certification. Experience with Salesforce permissions in an enterprise organization will be highly valued as well.
The successful candidate will complete complex assignments independently and collaboratively to help maintain continuity of operations during a transition from legacy systems. Salesforce CRM, Marketing Cloud, Cvent, Eventbrite, EverTrue, and other digital platforms will be part of our evolving technology ecosystem. Shifting priorities and flexible collaboration across departments with multiple stakeholders are to be expected and will create meaningful ROI and progressive wins.
Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience: At least three years of related experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and more than three years of relevant experience
• Seasoned mentor and/or trainer; successful team leader
• Proven track record with Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) design, development, implementation, and support responsibilities across various systems.
• Experience with industry-leading ETL tools such as Boomi, Mulesoft, Informatica, Jitterbit, or SSIS.
• Proficient in PL/SQL or TSQL such as in Oracle, SQL Server, etc.
• Experience with the design and development of REST APIs.
• Proven success troubleshooting existing services, performing root cause analysis, and automating business processes.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple tasks effectively with flexibility. Ability to be action-oriented and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrable experience preparing technical diagrams, logical data models, source-to-target maps, user-friendly documentation, and responsibilities for stakeholder and vendor communications.
• Experience participating in a team-driven, deadline-oriented environment using project management tools and agile methods in an environment of shifting priorities.
• Demonstrable experience in business requirements gathering, process improvement, project management, and effective communications.
• Experience designing Data Warehouse architectures.
• Expertise using Oracle SQL Developer, Microsoft SSMS and SSIS, JavaScript, Python, .Net/C#.
• Familiar with CRM systems such as Salesforce, Blackbaud, Microsoft Dynamics.
• Salesforce Certifications (Admin/Developer).
