Description
Provides System Support of elements of AOC computer, mainframe and network operations.
Reporting to an ISD Manager, this skilled position performs independently with limited decision-making responsibility as defined by senior information technology professional or managerial level staff. May take direction for specific assignments from other managerial staff or senior level information technology professionals. Work products are subject to review and approval appropriate to the work assigned. Interacts regularly with co-workers and customers.

WASHINGTON STATE RESIDENCY AND TELEWORK INFORMATION
AOC requires employees to reside in Washington State. Any exceptions must be approved. If you are invited to interview and currently reside outside of Washington State, seek more information about residency requirements from the AOC hiring manager of this recruitment.
Position may be eligible for hybrid working; a combination of telework and working in-office.
Duties
  • Configures AOC network LAN/WAN switches & routers, firewall, DNS, network load balancer and wireless appliances to the requirements of the user community in order to support the continuous availability, reliability, and performance of the AOC installed applications.

  • Performs specialized system design, acquisition, installation and maintenance.
  • Responds to customer service requests and provides skilled troubleshooting, problem resolution and consulting.
  • Participates and interacts with senior staff in design reviews of statewide systems and services.
  • Reviews and evaluates work products for accuracy and applicability.
  • Performs duties as required.

Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, computer science, business administration, public administration or closely allied field; AND:
  • Five (5) years of experience working in a complex information technology environment.

A combination of education and experience demonstrating a working knowledge of the duties, responsibilities and key competencies of the System Support Analyst may substitute for the qualifications listed.
THE IDEAL APPLICANT WILL ALSO HAVE SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Desired certification(s) include, but not limited to (verification required): Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching. CompTIA Security+, Network+, Cloud+.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise network equipment: routers, switches, firewalls and load balancing appliances
  • Management of enterprise wireless networks and Domain Name Servers
  • Site-to-site VPN (SDWAN) and client SSL VPN appliance management
  • Knowledge/understanding of the overall impact of the enterprise network such that they can independently deal with high risk, high profile initiatives impacting services
  • Interpersonal skills to work across boundaries and to establish and maintain professional working relationships with co-workers, customers and clients
  • Communication skills that facilitate effective, appropriate information exchanges
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing; communicate proficiently in written reports and deliver information through presentations
  • Ability to understands customer expectations and meets those expectations
  • Working knowledge of enterprise network equipment: routers, switches, firewalls and load balancing appliances

  • Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems in a consultative manner bringing problems together with recommendations for solutions

  • Ability to think critically, exercise judgment and make sound decisions and recommendations consistent with organizational objectives
  • Skill to prioritize and adjust priorities within workload assignments based on business need and/or direction from senior staff or management.
  • Ability to manage time & resources to accomplish goals & objectives
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively coordinate multiple assignments
  • Ability to accomplish work objectives, complete assignments set by supervisor

  1. Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project
  2. Application programming at the intermediate to expert range
  3. General business practices and procedures
  4. General accounting practices and procedures
  5. Methodologies and principles of Business Process Engineering (BPE / BPM)
  6. Principles of Change Management
  7. Quality Assurance methodologies
  8. Packaged application systems featuring a high level of configurability to end-user requirements
  9. Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle methodology

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs. For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
Social Security
All state employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The state and the employee pay an equal amount into the system.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness
If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, and meet the qualifying criteria, you may be eligible to receive student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
Holidays
Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
Note: Employees who are members of certain Unions may be entitled to additional personal leave day(s), please refer to position specific Collective Bargaining Agreements for more information.
Full-time employees who work full monthly schedules qualify for holiday compensation if they are employed before the holiday and are in pay status for at least 80 nonovertime hours during the month of the holiday; or for the entire work shift preceding the holiday.
Part-time employees who are in pay status during the month of the holiday qualify for the holiday on a pro-rata basis. Compensation for holidays (including personal holiday) will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status in the month to that required for full-time employment, excluding all holiday hours. Pay status includes hours worked and time on paid leave.
Sick Leave
Full-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Overtime eligible employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month, earn a monthly proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave.
Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
Vacation (Annual Leave)
Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave.
Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that ...
