The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time System Administratorin the Information Technology Department.

As an System Administrator you will:
  • Designs and coordinates segments of the IT architecture at the direction of the IT Operations Manager.
  • Produces and maintains IT design, architectural, and specification documentation, as identified.
  • In coordination with the rest of the systems staff, provides daily control of the IT production segments of the infrastructure, including system, network, and security administration.
  • Monitors information storage systems, schedules and tests, including backup and recovery tasks, as identified.
  • Provides research, development and planning of segments of the IT infrastructure.
  • Responsible for the validation, building, and testing of IT solutions; analyzing IT infrastructure technical issues; and supporting the design, planning, building and testing of new IT solutions, as assigned.
  • Provide support and training for other IT staff members as requested.
  • Demonstrates the necessary knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates and follows security requirements and procedures.
  • Subject to recall 24 hours a day.
  • Regular on-site attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
  • Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director and/or their designee(s).

The ideal candidate must be extremely organized and able to manage the logistics of multiple duties with professionalism and strong communication skills. In addition, they will have a strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment-both critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness and dependability. Ideal candidates will also look for innovative, trailblazing solutions to challenges We are looking for someone who can establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization and work effectively with all levels of employees and management.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited school or university preferred.
  • Three or more years of information technology experience to include communications.
  • Prefer experience in the following technologies/products: Cisco, Cradlepoint, Checkpoint, Firepower, Cisco Email Security Gateway, Solarwinds, Cisco AMP, Security, Server Hardware, Microsoft Windows, and Linux.
  • Municipal GIS experience preferred. erred.

Additional relevant work experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above knowledge; skill and education requirements may be substituted in lieu of specific education requirements.

Training (License and/or Certification):

  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver License.
