We are currently seeking a Sustainable Design Specialist to join our team in the Texas region – Houston, Dallas or Austin. As a Sustainable Design Specialist, you are responsible for providing holistic Sustainable Design leadership and coordination, energy and environmental analysis for planning, architecture, and interiors projects, integration of low-carbon as well as human health and well-being strategies on projects and consulting for various certifications under sustainability, health, and wellness standards such as LEED, WELL and Fitwel. You will also contribute to marketing pursuits and participate in a broad range of sustainable consulting services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Sustainable Design analysis, Sustainable consulting services, including certification consulting such as LEED, WELL and Fitwel.
- Consult with multiple internal design teams on Sustainable Design Integration, Energy and Carbon reduction, LEED, WELL, Fitwel and sustainable projects.
- Assist clients, engineers, and contractors with Sustainable Design implementation.
- Support consulting with exterior clients on building and non-building projects and collaborating on firm wide Sustainable Design and consulting projects. Projects will also include development of Sustainable Design and operations guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Goal setting and benchmarking projects under HOK’s AIA 2030 commitment.
- Support Sustainable Design education program and LEED AP, WELL AP credential maintenance for the Texas practice.
- Take personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
- Mentor team members.
- Foster a commitment to external and internal client service.
- Conceptual Energy modeling and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) skills preferred but not required. Ability to read, understand and interpret energy model and LCA reports.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of sustainability, building science, integrated design practices and third-party certification processes.
- Presentation and communication skills, including writing and basic graphic skills.
- Experience with coordination of team/resources to undertake multiple projects or facets of various projects.
- Familiarity with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) strategies related to the built environment.
- Strong organizational skills to manage documentation and information and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team environment and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop, Revit, Sketch-Up, Rhino and/or related software.
- Experience and skills relating to energy and environmental performance desired: Conceptual Energy Modeling; Human Comfort Analysis, Daylight Analysis; Renewable Energy Systems, Life Cycle Analysis, Carbon Feasibility Analysis.
- Experience in Sustainable Performance Analysis software such as Climate Studio, Vasari, Ecotect, DIVA, Radiance, DAYSIM, IES etc. desired.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or Sustainable Design required, Master’s degree preferred.
- 2-7 years’ experience.
- LEED AP with specialty required if previously experienced.
- LEED GA required.
- WELL AP and Fitwel Ambassadors preferred.
- Low/Zero carbon experience highly desirable.
