As we embark on this exciting journey, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Airport Sustainability Manager to lead our efforts in implementing sustainable practices throughout our operations.
Typical Tasks:
Develop and execute a comprehensive sustainability strategy for SLO County Airport
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability into airport operations, facilities, capital programs and services.
Identify and implement initiatives to reduce/eliminate carbon footprint, energy consumption, and waste generation.
Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in airport sustainability
Lead efforts to incorporate sustainable design principles into airport infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to green building standards.
Engage with stakeholders, including airlines, vendors, and local communities, to build strong partnerships and support for sustainability initiatives.
Develop and implement training programs to educate airport staff on sustainability practices and encourage their active participation in environmental initiatives.
Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to sustainability goals.
A passion for environmental sustainability and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact on the department of airports carbon footprint.
Proven experience in developing and implementing sustainability programs within the aviation industry. Familiarity with airport operations and regulations is a significant asset.
Ability to think strategically and innovatively to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with the airport's goals and vision.
Strong project management skills to oversee the implementation of sustainability initiatives, ensuring they are executed efficiently and within established timelines.
Familiarity with environmental regulations, carbon offset programs, and sustainable aviation practices.
Familiarity with green building principles and experience in incorporating sustainable design into infrastructure projects.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders, conveying the importance of sustainability and building strong partnerships.
The ability to drive change within a complex organizational structure, inspiring others to adopt sustainable practices and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental management, sustainability, energy systems, or closely related area of study AND five years of progressively responsible work experience related to environmental program management or monitoring and reporting related environmental analysis (job related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis).
Or, a combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities equivalent to those provided from the requirements listed above.
Licenses and Certificates:
Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
