Surveying Technician - Usafa

POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to provide Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Field Surveys and Drawing management support for the USAFA Civil Engineering Squadron program.
Responsibilities:

• Provide drafting support for Architects and Engineers.
• Convert engineering sketches and preliminary design drawings to final project drawings.
• Ensure final drawing sets include details of all sub-components i.e. civil site plans, building floor plans, structural plans, electrical plans, mechanical plans, plumbing plans, construction details, finish schedules, etc., and are ready for PE review and approval.
• Correct project drawings as required to capture project change orders.
• Correct installation record drawings IAW the finished construction of a facility.
• Assist with the development of in-house design drawings & conduct pre-design site visits and field surveys.
• Evaluate and enforce USAFA & industry A/E/C CADD standards on A&E project proposals.
• Ensures As-Built drawings are reviewed & validated prior to incorporating into Master Floorplans.
• Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for coordinating interaction and transformations between CADD and GIS.
• Help establish means and methods that meet Air Force and contractual requirements.
• Update GIS data for all current, proposed, and past projects.
• Correct historical data (typically buried utilities) to reflect actual location, materials, and conditions.
• Lead Surveyor for all surveying, perform field collection of GIS data using GPS devices.
• Able to traverse, navigate, and hike different types of terrain in year-round weather conditions.
• Provide support including staking for CE in-house projects, cemetery plot layouts, aircraft mishap/accident investigations, natural disaster condition and manmade disaster condition assessments.
• Utilize survey and resource grade Global Positioning System (GPS), and Total Stations to perform surveys.
• Supervisor for all construction layout, utility location, and disaster response surveys (natural & manmade disasters) and associated data IAW current industrial surveying standards.
• Document coordinates for any utility failures for future trend analyses.
• Compare/Research external data from surveying, plats, parcel maps, cadastral maps, geospatial info, legal descriptions, permits, as-built drawings, and other records and use best available data to modify, correct and maintain metadata used to generate GIS products including maps, tables, and reports in using AutoCAD and/or ArcMap format in support of Real Property records.
• Produce maps for customers of proposed and existing projects, special events, work clearance requests, emergency, and exercise needs, etc.
• Reproduction services: production of maps such as snow routes, custodial services, emergency management, operations, traffic accidents, VIP routes, planning, design, and construction.
• This also includes drawings in support of Cadet Programs (Global Engagement, FERL, etc.) and events (CORONA, Graduation, Parents Weekend, etc.).
• Catalog/maintain facility/infrastructure DWGs & digitized records.
• Maintain centralized storage of drawings for engineering and in-house projects, maps, charts, graphs and other documents and files.
• Maintain Master Floorplans for existing & new facilities, parking lots, roads, utility modifications, and demolition of facilities.
• Participate in and fully support any and all service areas during base exercises.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must have knowledge, familiarity and at least 5 years' experience with Autodesk software products, ESRI software products, and Trimble surveying equipment.
• Autodesk products include standard AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Map 3D and exposure to Revit.
• Extensive experience using ESRI ArcGIS suite of software including ArcMap, Arc Catalog, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro. Prior experience manipulating ESRI server-based data using versioning procedures.
• Trimble equipment includes S5 Total Station Robot, R10 Rover, and Geo 7X Handheld data collector.
• The ability to work with Data Stewards to validate and enter GIS data.
• The ability to communicate complex GIS concepts to entry level users preferred.
• Working knowledge of office automation software (MS Windows, MS Office, including PowerPoint, Word, Access, and Excel) required.
• Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• For positions requiring use of a Company and/or Customer vehicle, must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy.
• Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
• Ability to update, write clear and comprehensive and informative reports.
• Ability to collect, analyze and interpret technical data.
• Perform recurring work independently with little or no additional instruction.
• Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements of the customer to include weekends and holidays.
• Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
