Description:
Jefferson County Development & Transportation division is searching for a Land Survey Technician to join the team!
Under limited supervision, the Land Survey Technician is responsible for organizing and executing geodetic, property, construction, and engineering surveys. Research land ownership. Interpret construction plans. Evaluate and reestablish survey monuments. Prepare drawings from field measurements and original legal descriptions. Perform data collection and construction staking utilizing all survey equipment for road right of ways, land acquisitions and other county facilities.
The ideal candidate works independently to organize and execute geodetic, property, construction and engineering surveys coordinating with field crews, managers, engineers, and support staff from all levels. This individual will determine the priority of each job, researching land ownership, interpreting construction plans, and evaluate and reestablish survey monuments. This position requires an advanced knowledge base in GPS software and hardware, total station, Trimble Business Center, and Civil 3D/AutoCAD to prepare drawings from field measurements and compose original legal descriptions. Must have experience performing Land Surveys for road rights-of-way, land acquisitions and other County facilities.

Schedule:
This position has the option to work on either our four-day work week (Monday-Thursday), or a traditional 5-day workweek (Monday - Friday). This position operates best in-office, in-person, however, a hybrid schedule may be available after a six-month training period. Required to perform field investigations over variable terrain, in all weather conditions, and in proximity to heavy traffic.
Compensation:
Hiring Range: $28 - $32 USD Hourly
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

Essential Duties:
  • Perform data collection for boundary surveys including research, field, and office work. Stake construction and/or right of ways. Decide the method and frequency of staking to obtain required accuracy without excessive expenditure of time or assets. Use Global Positioning System (GPS) and conventional survey equipment to collect field survey data for survey projects, including on-site field verifications.
  • Research ownership of county real estate and evaluate research data to find legal ownership.
  • Assist other county departments with Land Survey needs. Boundary location, topographical surveys, and construction layout.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimal Qualifications:
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of experience on a field survey crew with construction staking and topographic surveys.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education & experience.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have Colorado Driver's License at hire.
  • Must have current knowledge of GPS software and hardware, total station, Trimble Business Center and Civil 3D/AutoCAD required.
  • Highly desirable - LSIT.
  • Preferred relevant specialized training.
  • Strong customer service.
  • Ability to articulate clearly and effectively to varying levels of customer.
  • Experience building collaborative working relationships with customers, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • High attention to detail when proofreading/correcting written reports.
