Perform various surveying, computer aided design, and engineering functions requiring moderate technical skill, including work on land surveys, engineering projects, and assisting in reestablishing or witnessing government corners.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work under the direct supervision of the County Surveyor, lead worker, or designee who assigns projects or crew assignments and evaluates work performance.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
- Performs GIS entry into the Survey Graphic Index and plat tracker, calculations and reviews for ORS compliance for Plats and Surveys submitted to the Surveyor's Office.
- Discuss the ORS review with private surveyors and developers.
- Prepares the final Mylar for professional review by the County Surveyor for signature and approval.
- Enter final maps (point tagging) into the Survey Graphic Index.
- Customer service as required for citizens that come into the Surveyor's Office or contact the office by phone.
- Reads and interprets notes, maps, and drawings.
- Using CAD and computer software, prepare and/or review legal descriptions and exhibit maps for right-of-way acquisition and/or easements.
- Review legal descriptions and exhibit maps for other divisions.
- Use GIS and other survey and clerk records to research projects as assigned.
- Perform calculations.
- Understand the principles of boundary surveying and property conveyances along with interpretation of evidence and map reading.
- Communicate effectively with property owners, private surveyors, and other staff.
- Assist with filing and maintaining records, making copies, assisting the public in records research, and other miscellaneous duties.
- Serve as crew member for survey field crew.
- Helps perform government corner restoration surveys, topographic surveys, road right-of-way surveys, construction surveys and measurements of quantities, using highly accurate total station equipment, global positioning equipment and other survey equipment.
- Prepare maps for Public Land Corner Program using ACAD and surveying software.
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
- Participates in basic through advanced incident command training and drills to maintain proficiency in EOC operations. Assumes any position as assigned in the EOC, up to and including command staff. Emergency Management duties may require working long hours outside normal business hours, weekend/holiday work, and may occur with little or no advance notice.
- Two years of college coursework in surveying or civil engineering; AND
- One year of experience in survey work, civil engineering design or computer aided design; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.
- Experience in computer aided design and proficiency using AutoCAD software.
- Possession of, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Class C Oregon driver's license. If in possession of a current out of state driver's license, must obtain Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire.
- Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business. - The finalist for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this position.
- Final candidates selected for this position may be required to pass a physical examination by a county-appointed medical doctor.
- This position is represented by a union.
- This is a full-time position, which is eligible for overtime.
- Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm or the option of 4 (four) 10-hour days, with flexibility depending upon the needs of the department and program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of mathematics, including trigonometry as applied to surveying and engineering, basic surveying and engineering practices and procedures.
Skill and ability to use tools; use a variety of survey and engineering software applications to make computations; conduct research; perform arduous manual tasks; the use of surveying instruments; ability to deal effectively with the public; operate blueprinting and copying machines; follow instructions accurately; keep accurate records; follow oral and written instructions accurately and efficiently.
