Required Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
- Four (4) years of related engineering technical experience.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, surveying, construction management, computer science, or specific area of study as deemed applicable may substitute for four (4) years of experience; or,
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as those listed above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of mathematical concepts and drafting techniques; state and local statutes, codes, and regulations; recordkeeping principles and practices; databases and filing systems.
- Use of computer and other office equipment effectively and efficiently.
- Possession of a valid driver's license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
- Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
- Successful completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
Available Schedules:
- 8 hours daily, Monday - Friday
- Opportunity for alternate schedule after the first year of employment:
- 9-80 (nine-hour workdays with a three-day weekend every other week)
- 4-10 (four 10-hour days with three days off each week)
May be eligible for the following additional pay (for a maximum of 10% differential):
- 2.5% for GIS Professional Certification
- 5% for FE or FS Certificate, Professional Engineer or LS
- 5% for a Master's Degree

- Produces, processes, files, and maintains a variety of records, maps, plans, permits, property descriptions and other technical-related information.
- Assists the public with a variety of inquiries and requests for information related to public works services; pursues and resolves citizen complaints in area of expertise.
- Consults with and provides information to contractors, developers, other departments, agencies, and the public.
- Prepares a variety of reports related to activities in assigned area of responsibility.
- Assists in preparing City Council agenda commentaries; attends meetings and represents the Public Works Department.
- Positions assigned to Surveying Services may be responsible for:
- Performing technical field work utilizing surveying instruments and tools to establish existing grades and topography.
- Preparing and reducing field survey notes and electronic data into CAD drawings and electronic files.
- Analyzing and interpreting historical records and other survey data for use in survey boundary resolutions and mapping.
- Preparing and checking legal and property descriptions.
- Read and interpret construction plans and calculate grades for roadbeds, storm and sanitary sewer lines, and related utilities for construction layout.
- Drawing maps and processing electronic data for engineering designs.
- Maintain GIS database and map layer of public works real property interests.
- Reviews land divisions for survey specific state and local law conformity.
- Communicate with engineers, other surveyors, construction contractors, workers, and other members of the public.
