Summary:
The Surgery Coordinator/Scheduler provides patients with pre-op counseling; coordinates scheduling, gathers documentation for pre-certification, and provides patient insurance financial responsibility information as it relates to surgery. Serves as the primary interface for patients as they prepare for surgery.
Position will require local travel between established locations.
Selected Responsibilities:
- Reviews with patient all proposed surgical procedure(s); answers general patient questions regarding surgery
- Explains to patients where their surgery will be scheduled
- Calculates insurance estimates for pre-payments; collects and posts all applicable payments including deductibles, co-payments, and co-insurance prior to surgery/treatment
- Explains to patient pre-op documents, prescriptions, consent forms, surgical kits and other necessary forms for surgery
- Forwards completed packet of surgical paperwork to surgical liaison who will then send to facility/hospital
- Explains what is expected on the day of surgery, answers any pre-surgical questions, and informs patient of follow up care
- Informs patient of any pre-admission testing (labs, EKG, etc.) as needed
- Checks health issues and ensures updated histories are documented
- Schedules surgery appointments, follow-up visits, and pre-op testing as well as date of surgery
- Answers incoming calls, reviews phone messages and returns calls as soon as possible
- Maintains patients’ charts after scheduling surgery and doing pre-op exam, making sure everything has been signed and completed.
- Completes correspondence as needed
- Performs any other duties as requested or required
Qualifications/Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Advanced knowledge of EHR; Minimum 3 years of surgery scheduling or counseling experience required.
- Knowledgeable of Microsoft office software, the Internet and other software products as needed; general office equipment
- An understanding of, and an ability to articulate patient charges, insurance benefits, ICD coding and medical terminology
Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ensures patients questions are answered and they complete the scheduling process for surgery.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
