Summary
This position is located in Field Operations Directorate, District 43, Los Angeles County Field Office in Los Angeles, CA.
As an Supervisory Records Management Specialist, you will provide technical and administrative supervision to Records personnel throughout the Field Office.

Duties
  • Provide technical and administrative supervision to all office personnel on the maintenance and handling of immigration records within the Field Office
  • Act as local Mail Facility Manager overseeing and supervising the local mail room through subordinate supervisors and staff. Communicate and resolve local issues with mail couriers on securely shipping and receiving file records
  • Conduct on and off-site reviews of Field Office Records operations to provide guidance, oversight, and training on managing immigration records
  • Coordinate direction of the Records Management Program; collaborate with District, Region, Headquarters, and Field Offices to formulate and apply records policies, guidelines and procedures that impact the Field and other components within DHS
  • Inform management of the creation, collection, storage and disposition of immigration data and records; program compliance to laws, regulations, policies, guidelines; external movement and maintenance of records; reconciliation and updates to systems
  • May act as the Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) to manage the Contract Performance Analysis Unit (CPAU) in those locations where there is a Field Operations Support Services contract.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.
Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year.

THIS ANNOUNCEMENT SUPPORTS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE NEW LOS ANGELES COUNTY FIELD OFFICE (LAC) AS PART OF THE DISTRICT 43 DECENTRALIZATION PLAN. THE NEW OFFICE MAY BE RELOCATING TO A NEW LOCATION OUTSIDE OF DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES IN THE FUTURE AND THE FIELD OFFICE LOCATION LOCATED WITHIN DISTRICT 43 HAS YET TO BE IDENTIFIED
The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 12/27/2023.
Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 12/27/2023.
GS-12: You qualify at the GS-12 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
  • Analyzing the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of administrative programs.
  • Serving as an adviser on records issues and making recommendations on changes in operations, policy or procedures.
  • Supervising a team or serving as a project lead in the management of immigration file records.
