Summary
About the Position: Serve as Supervisory Park Ranger for a multiple-use lake office, which has a variety of park facilities, substantial and recurring natural resource management activities, and high annual visitation by public visitors.

Duties
  • Prepares and/or works with the lake staff in the preparation of various planning documents for the lake.
  • Develop and/or administer various service contracts (typically designated as project contracting officer representatives (COR)) and assist the contracting officer with oversight of contracts.
  • Lead or assist others in the overall project budget formulation, monitoring, and execution.
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate the project Volunteer Program.
  • Plan and oversee the construction for the rehabilitation of campsites, picnic sites, roads, and associated structures in park areas.
  • Responsible for the administration, direction, management and control of the interpretive programs for visitors to the dam and lake.
  • Serve as the project's visitor safety officer. Manage the safety program to ensure a safe work environment and safe public facilities and make recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the program.
  • Provide expertise in the management of a major water resource development lake as it pertains to the dam and appurtenant structures in conjunction with daily duties.
  • Plan, coordinate, and assign work to subordinates, determining work schedules and priorities. Develop performance plans and evaluate performance of subordinates.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to wear prescribed uniform as identified in ER 1130-2-550.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must complete Park Ranger training requirements (including Visitor Assistance Training, CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens) within 6 months of employment.
  • Must possess or be able to acquire Title 36 Citation Authority within one year.
  • Must be designated as or be able to be certified as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).
  • Must work nights, weekends and/or holidays depending on the needs of the project.
  • May be required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g. heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
  • Must be able to obtain a minimum of 24 hours of personal protection/unarmed self-defense, situational evaluation and tactical communication training within two years of employment.
  • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
  • During emergencies, the incumbent may be called on short notice.
  • Occasional overnight travel required for training, conferences and rotational assignments less than 10% of the time.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes at least TWO of the following:
1) Leading in the field, classroom, or other setting that focus on active listening skills and communication within a team
2) Coordinating the development and implementation of cultural history projects (e.g. including ethnic history, local folklore, historical sites and buildings, etc.)
3) Creating guides, manuals and/or training materials
4) Developing and maintaining park management programs (e.g. river, wildlife, fish, vegetation)
5) Coordinating programs for the protection of rare and endangered plant or animal species with internal and external (including public agencies) stakeholders
6) Planning, developing, and coordinating a project Visitor Assistance Program (i.e., recreation program)
7) Completing survey and field work in connection with the development of new recreational facilities and lease sites
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education with major study in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
