To provide a service to our community by offering quality merchandise, exceptional customer service and successful financial profitability for McLaren Macomb Gift Shop.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Supervises mixed staff of volunteers and employees.
- Attends monthly Guild Board and General Membership meetings.
- Keeps current with market trends and new product development.
- Cultivates relationships with vendors for exclusive merchandise and special pricing
- Provides training to all paid and volunteer staff and directs the specific staff responsibilities and assignments.
- Consults with Supervisor, Volunteer Services on matters relating to volunteer staff.
- Develops and maintains working relationships with sales representatives and vendors to purchase merchandise, paying attention to quality and value pursuant to the organization's patient, visitor and employee demographics.
- Directs, manages and organizes all inventories (i.e. ordering, lifting, opening, checking, pricing and delivering to Gift Shop for display/sales.)
- Performs annual inventory on all merchandise
- Responsible for display windows. Uses creativity in displaying merchandise to make it appealing to the customer.
- Keeps all shelves dusted, organized, stocked and updated.
- Responds to the influence of seasonal changes, holidays and special events when ordering and displaying merchandise.
- Responsible for ordering, hanging and maintaining the art gallery.
- Instructs and trains all staff for participation in fundraisers for the Guild and other departments within the hospital.
- Conducts annual sales and special sales, promotions and marketing strategies to continuously increase sales.
- Monitors Gift Shop budget, which is self-funded and takes action to improve profit.
- Handles all invoices for payment (i.e. categorizes, applies discounts and credits, totals all invoices)
- Participates in associations such as the Michigan Gift Shop Managers Association to increase networking opportunities and monitor trends.
- Attend buying shows
- Shops after hours 2-3 times per week for frozen food and supplies
- Cleans and maintains all equipment (i.e. freezers, refrigerators, florist cooler etc.)
- Submit weekly/monthly articles for e-update and Guild Newsletter
- Covers staff duties, as needed
- Performs other related job duties as requested.
Required:
• Associates Degree
• One year of prior work experience in a retail setting including knowledge of buying and displaying merchandise
Preferred:
• Three years of prior work experience in a retail setting including knowledge of buying and displaying merchandise
