Job description

The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking a Summer Associate for our Operations team.

Operations is responsible for leading the Foundation’s core business functions and is dedicated to creating, optimizing, and managing effective processes, systems, and infrastructure that support our programs, sustain our investments, and strengthen our connections with grantees and key partners. Operations champion a OneRF approach and drive excellence across the Foundation’s financial processes, legal approaches, convening strategies, physical spaces, technology, talent development, and organizational culture while ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion are incorporated into every aspect of the Foundation.

This position sits within the Office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) which directly supports the Foundation’s COO and the broader Operations teams in fulfilling operational objectives and aligning the Foundation’s people, processes, systems, and culture to the Foundation’s new Climate Strategy announced in 2023. In alignment with the Climate Strategy, the Office of the COO is also responsible for leading the Foundation’s Net Zero strategy and roadmap across its global operations. As a member of the Office of the COO’s team, this Summer Associate will have the ability to assist in the crafting and execution of Foundation-wide strategic initiatives.

Program Details
  • This position is open to graduate students only.
  • A cover letter is required.
  • The 2024 summer program will run for 11 weeks from June – August 2024.
  • This position will be based in New York City and requires a hybrid work arrangement, working onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Pay Range: $30 - $35 hourly rate. This represents the present low and high end of the Foundation’s pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience. This is a non-exempt position and thus eligible for overtime pay.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide project management support for the internal coordination, communication, and execution of The Rockefeller Foundation’s Net Zero Operations strategy and roadmap, contributing to sustainability and climate outcomes.
  • Support the refinement and implementation of recommendations from our enterprise risk management program, ensuring the Foundation's resilience and operational integrity.
  • Engage in comprehensive research, data analysis, and business insights projects to inform strategic decisions and operational improvements as assigned.
  • Draft briefing documents for the COO's high-level engagements.
  • Create and detail workflows for critical processes within the Office of the COO (i.e. governance, salesforce, reporting, etc.).
  • Lead and manage the content and action items for key operations meetings, including the quarterly All Operations meeting, driving collaboration and operational coordination across the Foundation.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, fostering partnerships that advance the Foundation’s operational and strategic goals.
Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Enrollment in a graduate-level program within fields such as business administration, environmental sustainability, operations, financial management, public administration, nonprofit management, or similar areas.
  • Demonstrated passion for operational excellence, sustainability, and the social sector.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and strategic planning skills.
  • Exceptional communication abilities, with the capacity to engage effectively across diverse teams and with external partners.
  • Collaborative, innovative, eager to learn, and interested in how the Foundation creates and implements strategies working alongside partners.
  • Must be a proactive self-starter.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
