Description
SUMMARY
The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor is responsible for determining and providing the appropriate level of substance abuse intervention for applicable youth. If candidate does not hold a current CAD Certification, program is open to applicants interested in pursuing this certification as professional development.
ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Services:
- Serve a specialized caseload of youth struggling with addiction and SUBSTANCE USE, including SUD screening and assessment.
- Collaborate with Therapists and other providers to meet training needs and provide consultation for Program staff.
- Serve as an expert in available community SUD resources and share resource information with Program staff.
- Provide rehabilitation and IHBS services to youth in the home, school, and community focusing on specific skill deficit and knowledge areas including, harm-reduction, independent living, emotion regulation, social skills, and coping skills.
- Help develop formal/informal support networks for youth/families in their communities.
- Act as a positive role model for youth and promote greater youth participation and voice at the practice, program, and policy levels.
- Triage crisis situations with team members, including completing basic risk assessments, safety planning, and connecting families to resources to maintain safety in the youth's home, school, and community.
- Utilize supervision, consultation, and training to provide high quality services to youth in an effective manner.
- Assist treatment teams in connecting youth/families to community resources that support the treatment plan, including discharge planning, and create specialty areas of community resource knowledge to share with Program.
- Document rehabilitation services (e.g., skills training and case management) per Medi-Cal requirements and SDCC policies and procedures.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintains clear, effective, and open communication with internal staff/programs and with community partners.
- Maintains clear, effective, and open communication with group home/FFA staff.
Other:
- Displays a commitment to anti-racism and engages in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within clinical work, the program, and the organization.
- Fulfill all contractual and organizational training requirements (e.g., CCBH, cultural competency, Privacy/Security, False Claims Act, applicable EBP training, etc.).
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED
- California Driver's License
- Experience working with individuals, preferably youth, with SUBSTANCE USE and abuse problems
- Good verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience providing culturally competent services to diverse populations
- Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor (CADC)
- Bachelor's degree
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Experience with/training in foster care/probation culture, relevant EBPs, trauma informed care, and CCBH
