Student Intern - Golf

Reports to: Director of Golf

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Job Summary

As one of the premier clubs in the Southeast with two 18 hole golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr and Thomas Bendelow, the internship with Greenville Country Club will give you the experience to collaborate closely with a seasoned mentor who will guide you through practical, hands-on projects and daily responsibilities within the golf management field at a multi course club. The golf intern is also responsible for assisting the Head Golf Professional with numerous activities related to the management and operation of the club’s golf program.

Essential Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assists Golf Professional in instructing and with merchandising, on-course, golf car and personnel management responsibilities.
• Maintains Golf Pro Shop inventory control system.
• Assists members by providing and interpreting golf policies, rules and regulations.
• Keep Golf Pro Shop counter and club repair area neat, clean and organized at all times.
• Maintain complete knowledge of the handicapping system and all pertinent handicap information.
• Stays up-dated and current on all upcoming club events.
• Maintain playing ability and work to stay competent in all areas of the game.
• Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe working environment, with emphasis on promoting employee health and safety.
• Conducts golf clinics.
• Maintains handicap records.
• Operates Pro Shop in absence of Golf Pro Shop Manager.
• Oversees Pro Shop inventory and periodically conducts physical counts of merchandise, including scorecards, tees, matches, pencils, ball marks, golf car tags and tee sheets.
• Assumes Golf Professional’s duties in his or her absence.
• Manages the daily opening and closing of golf operations.
• Assists in the coordination of tournaments and special events.
• Makes copies of tournament results and enters into the correct files.
• Coordinates junior golf activities.
• Assists in all daily scheduling of lessons for all teaching assistants.
• Provides golf instruction.
• Keeps updated on times needed for golf clinics and group lessons.
• Makes copies of all lesson fees.
• Performs starter or marshal duties as needed.
• Manages USGA handicap system for members.
• Ensures course is properly marked.
• Attends staff meetings.
• Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Golf Professional.

Education and/or Experience

• Must be enrolled in a 4-year program relating to golfing, golf management or similar
• Must be able to work for 6-7 months rotation preferably in the Spring/Summer months
• Previous club experience a plus

Physical Requirements

• General outdoor environment with exposure to various degrees of weather along with indoor environment
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs
• Ability to bend, kneel, stand and lift throughout shift frequently moving through the Clubhouse and greens
• Must be able to operate golf cart in a safe and efficient manner

Other Benefits

In addition to field experience, interns will be provided housing, paid an hourly rate and can expect to work 40+ hours each week. Pro shop discounts, uniforms and a meal allowance is also provided. Interns must have their own transportation.
