Each position will specialize in a key area, with one focused on Bachelor's students and the other on Master's students, while also providing support to other student populations and programs as needed. The Student Services Advisors II will report to the Associate Director of Student Services or a higher-level supervisor and collaborate closely with the advisement team, Department Chair, and Viterbi Admissions and Student Engagement office.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Service Support (80%):

  • Position 1 (Bachelor's Specialist): Provide academic advisement and counseling services to undergraduate students in the Computer Science department.
  • Position 2 (Master's Specialist): Provide academic advisement and counseling services to master's students in the Computer Science department.
  • Assist students with course selection, curriculum requirements, transfer credit evaluations, and graduation clearance.
  • Collaborate with VASE (Viterbi Academic Success and Engagement) or other relevant offices to address student concerns and provide necessary referrals.
  • Process course clearance, registration, and grade-related requests for students.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and compile statistical data as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials for curriculum proposals and other reports.

Communications and Outreach (15%):

  • Support the dissemination of information regarding undergraduate and master's programs and available services to students and other constituencies.
  • Assist with outreach strategies to raise awareness of available student services.
  • Collaborate with the team in the development of written materials and presentation guides for consistent information delivery.

Administrative Support (5%):

  • Attend relevant departmental, school, and university meetings to stay informed about updates in policies and procedures.
  • Interact with other university departments and external organizations when needed to coordinate services.

The Department of Computer Science has a significant and dynamic student population that is home to more than 5,000 students. The ideal candidates for these positions should be detail-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and be able to handle a diverse student population with care and enthusiasm. They should demonstrate a dedication to providing exceptional service and support to students in their respective focus areas within the Computer Science department. Upholding USC's Code of Ethics and fostering an inclusive environment are integral aspects of these roles.

Job duties may be added or modified as needed.

Viterbi staff are expected to facilitate a culture of support and service, to model civility and respectful engagement at all times, and to maintain the highest ethical standards and to maintain strict confidentiality across all facets of their work.
