At Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As a Structural Design Engineer, you will be fully integrated into the product development process from the earliest stages. You will build finite element models, analyze AR/VR designs, characterize materials, verify & validate finite element models. You will work as part of a cross-functional team requiring collaboration with product design, manufacturing design, materials and reliability teams. Our ideal candidate has strong solid mechanics fundamentals, experience in static & dynamic finite element analysis, material characterization & modeling, and experience in consumer electronics.
- As a Structural Design Engineer, work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception to shipping product.
- Build system-level & module-level finite element models to assess risk of various failure modes under different loading conditions and propose changes to make the design more robust and reliable.
- Perform module-level shock and thermo-mechanical analyses.
- Organize and lead Structural Design reviews, design brainstorms, and present FEA results in a form actionable by cross-functional teams and leadership.
- Collaborate with the materials team and/or outside vendors to characterize materials and components.
- Collaborate with REL & DVE teams on FEA model validation as well as development of technical specifications.
- Identify & Work on new methodologies to improve modeling capabilities to solve complex mechanical problems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- MS in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or similar.
- Experience with FEA softwares such as HyperMesh, SimLab, Abaqus, ANSYS etc.
- Fundamental understanding of solid mechanics and strength of materials.
- Proven analytical skills based on first principles.
- Experience in static and dynamic finite element analysis as well as thermo-mechanical analysis.
- Experience in material modeling and testing.
- Knowledge of failure modeling of different types of materials.
- Experience in validation tests.
- Proven communication skills.
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, or 5+ years of experience in the consumer electronics industry.
- Experience with Abaqus, HyperMesh, and SimLab.
- Experience with DIC, Universal Testing Machine, and DMA.
- Experience with 3D modeling software e.g. Nx, SolidWorks, etc.
