Salary Range for California-Based Applicants: $150,000 - $173,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, and other factors permitted by law).

Role Summary
This is a fantastic opportunity to join Rivian's Battery Structures Team. We're looking for a highly motivated, multi-disciplined, Mechanical Design Engineer to help us package and design mechanical components in support of structural hardware that will lead the EV industry.
Responsibilities
- DESIGN: Deliver a best-in-class HV Battery Enclosure maintaining consideration of,
- Crash, safety, thermal, durability, NVH, water/dust ingress, EMC performance metrics
- General build feasibility, DFM/DFA, dimensional variation, and material, commodity and joining nuance.
- Design for service, product reliability and product sustainability
- LEAD: Lead / mentor a young team of talented mechanical engineers - providing thoughtful critique and guidance grounded in first principles.
- COLLABORATE: Represent design in collaboration with multiple business functions across the company to arrive at an optimized, well-balanced product.
- NAVIGATE: Help guide the team through the product development lifecycle - appropriately managing risk within aggressive program timelines utilizing component, subsystem and full system validation and verification
Qualifications
- At least 10 years industry experience within automotive or other industries (consumer electronics, biomedical, aerospace, etc.) with 5 of those years being in HV Battery development - preferably more than one program
- Exceptional problem solving and communication skills.
- M.S degree in mechanical engineering, or relevant equivalent experience.
- Knowledgeable in a wide range of EV vehicle systems, automotive design and manufacturing practices, and low voltage electrical system integration. Direct experience preferred.
- Experience designing components and /or systems that include thermal and HV management subsystems.
- A working knowledge of manufacturing methods such as sheet metal stamping, plastic injection molding, metal casting, extrusion, and CNC machining
- A working knowledge of joining technologies such as fastening, SPR, FSW and RSW
- Experience designing for a full range of production environments - fully manual to fully automated.
- Conversant with DFMEA principles and execution
- CAD proficient - ideally within Catia V5 / V6 / 3DX, though other equivalent systems will be considered. Advanced surfacing and solid modelling expertise is preferred, along with strong CAD structure/organizational skills.
- Lead component drawing creation including GD&T to ASME Y14.5 standards
