Job Title: STREET DEPARTMENT – HOURLY – EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
Reports To: STREET SUPERINTENDENT
Status: FT, Regular, Non-exempt
Hours/Week: 40 hours/week, M-F
*May be required to work outside of normal business hours during inclement weather.
Salary: Starting range $18.50 - $20.50 (level of experience considered)

Job Summary: Operates various pieces of street equipment to assist in the construction, repair and maintenance of all City streets; operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner and ensure equipment is properly maintained; requires a high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience at the level of Street Department Laborer. This is a security sensitive job for which the use of drugs, including medical marijuana, is prohibited.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Operate Equipment for construction and maintenance projects.
· Manual labor for construction and maintenance projects.
· Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Education:
· High School graduate or GED w/ mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines
· Valid Driver’s License / Pass Drug Screening
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Ability to read and understand simple instructions, policy manuals, maintenance instructions, safety rules, etc.
· Ability to write simple correspondence, routine reports and other related items as required.
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
· Must be able to operate various pieces of street equipment to assist in the construction, repair and maintenance of all city streets, vehicles, and equipment.
· Employee will have frequent contact with general public, patrons, or other outside representatives and must be able to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
· Considerable responsibility in planning the time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work; may also occasionally assist in the planning of work assignments performed by others within a limited area of operation.
· Requires regular use of complex machines and equipment (desktop/laptop computer and software, road and production machines and equipment, etc.)
· Contact with other employees/departments; consulting on problems which necessitate judgment and tact in presentation to obtain cooperation or approval of action to be taken.
· Outside or inside working environments, wherein there are potential hazardous working conditions and life-threatening situations exist (fire, chemicals, electrical sources, heights, dangerous people, etc.)
