ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This job performs routine maintenance and construction work with responsibility for the physical maintenance of the airport’s grounds. Work involves planning, organizing, performing construction and maintenance work under the general supervision of the Director of Grounds Development.
1. Performs semi-skilled physical work in the maintenance and repair of airport grounds.
2. Operates a variety of airport maintenance equipment including but not limited to bulldozer, excavator, compactor, skid steer, tractor, brush hog, mower, backhoe, snow removal equipment, ramp sweeper, light vehicles, etc.
3. Performs snow and ice removal of runways, taxiways, aprons, and airport roadways when necessary.
4. Performs ground maintenance tasks, including mowing, brush removal, construction, and limited repairs to Heavy Equipment.
5. Considerable knowledge of the proper procedures, techniques, tools, and operation of Heavy Equipment used in construction and maintenance of airport and grounds. Knowledge of airport traffic regulation and the practices followed in the care and operation of a variety of construction and maintenance equipment.
6. Recognizes, evaluates, and corrects safety hazards or advises immediate supervisor of same.
7. Work hours may vary due to the nature of specific project. Must be able to work rotating shift if necessary and holidays. Responds to evening, weekend, and holiday emergency calls for service.
8. This position will be required to help maintain airport equipment including but not limited to fueling, greasing, cleaning, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
KNOWLEDGE- Graduation from high school or equivalent, experience in airport building and grounds maintenance work and operation of light to heavy duty automotive vehicles and construction equipment; or any equivalent combination of experience and training to perform such duties.
SECURITY - Requires the ability to pass a security background check. The Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport is a drug free workplace. This position is a safety sensitive position as defined in Ark. Const. Amend. 98, § 2(25). Persons employed in this position may not use marijuana at any time or any place.
MENTAL - Requires normal attention.
PHYSICAL - Requires standing approximately 80% sitting approximately 20% Requires good physical condition and sufficient strength to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL - Requires capability of performing essential job functions in a shop environment and exposure to outdoor environments and all-weather conditions.
MANUAL DEXTERITY - Requires using hands, arms and/or feet for performing essential job functions such as equipment repair, maintenance work, using a portable radio, driving a vehicle, and operating Heavy Equipment.
You may not operate an airport vehicle or motorized equipment and must notify the Director or Deputy Director of Airport Operations and Maintenance before returning to work: (i) if you are arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; or (ii) if the state revokes, suspends or fails to renew your driver’s license. Must have a valid Arkansas driver’s license or ability to attain and be insurable to operate the Airport’s vehicles and motorized equipment.
AUDIBLE - Ability to understand/carry out, or give oral and written instructions, including the ability to read and interpret simple plans and specifications. Must be able to communicate with other employees and air traffic control tower using radios.
VISUAL - Requires the ability to read documentation, perform inspections, and drive a vehicle.
