SCEMD is seeking an intern to assist with their ongoing Hurricane Evacuation Study. The Hurricane Evacuation Study is an 18-month project analyzing hurricane hazards, evacuation zones, population changes, hurricane-related public behaviors and perceptions, evacuation shelters, and evacuation transportation/timing. The candidate should be proficient in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and Excel, and would ideally be interested in emergency management, hurricane evacuations, and meteorology. This intern would get the unique opportunity collaborate with local, state, and federal partners such as SC Dept. of Public Safety and the National Weather Service to help shape the hurricane program within the state. Daily job duties would be focused on GIS and map-related tasks as well as statistical processing in SPSS. A few key portions of the project that this intern would get to help with are:
- Mapping of critical infrastructure, hurricane evacuation shelters, evacuation zones and routes, and more
- Analyzing the HES behavioral survey results
- Evacuation transportation modeling in RtePM
