Staff Manufacturing Engineer Description
Our client in the wholesale building materials industry is looking for a hands-on Staff Manufacturing Engineer to add to their team in Van Buren County, Michigan. You will lead the manufacturing process through prototyping, capital equipment evaluations, and driving process improvements to streamline operations and reduce costs. Depending on your past leadership experience, this role may oversee direct reports, or it may have no managerial responsibilities. In either scenario, this critical position will act as a mentor to more junior Engineers & have the long-term objective of evolving into a management position. The ideal candidate enjoys troubleshooting manufacturing challenges, building prototypes, and completing product testing. You will be eager to work in a hands-on capacity and split your time between the office and the production floor. Staff Manufacturing Engineer Responsibilities
• Identify areas for continuous manufacturing improvement & increased capacity
• Supports manufacturing with new or modified processes, equipment, and fixturing
• Responsible for identification, justification, and procurement of Capital Equipment
• Complete 2D and 3D CAD designs, product drawings, and documentation
• Design and build prototypes and fixtures and complete appropriate testing
• Develop product budgets
• Utilize a hands-on approach for problem diagnosis and resolution
• Maintain engineering documents in a shared database
• Train production staff on new processes developed by engineering
• Daily interaction with cross-functional teams to meet safety, quality, and growth targets
Staff Manufacturing Engineer Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree is required
• 8+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience is required
• Experience designing production-focused fixtures, jigs, gauges, & equipment is required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office required (Excel skills to include formulas)
• Ability to work 100% on-site is required
