The Staff Auditor I assists in planning and conducting a variety of financial, operational and compliance audits in conformance with Internal Audit Standards and established Bank objectives, policies and procedures, and applicable Federal and State regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Internal Audit Program
- Assists in the development, management, and implementation of the bank wide risk methodology to frame the Internal Audit Program.
- Assists in planning, organizing and implementing the Internal Audit Program. Helps to develop audit plans and programs to properly test the Bank's financial information, internal controls, records and systems.
- Communicates in writing the results of audits and reviews through a formal written audit reporting process to appropriate bank management and the Auditing Committee of the Board of Trustees.
- Reports to the Chief Auditor. In their extended absence, reports to and communicates with the Senior Auditor and the Board of Trustees Auditing Committee Chairman.
- Interviews department management and staff on processes performed and documents controls; updates internal audit work programs as required. Accordingly makes necessary changes to the audit risk assessment tool.
- Performs all audit work in compliance with Internal Auditing Standards.
- Maintains working knowledge of industry activity and regulatory compliance developments in system auditing and control techniques. Attends various seminars and workshops. Recommends procedural changes as needed to support prescribed requirements.
Audit Consulting
- Recommends and consults with the Bank Management on all phases of the COSO (Committee of Sponsoring Organizations) internal control integrated framework.
- Provides assistance to external auditors.
- Provides guidance and support to the various banking departments in the implementation of policy and procedures so as to (a) ensure adequate internal controls are in place (b) ensure compliance with regulatory standards and (c) to optimize system capabilities. Also provides support and assistance in resolution of issues.
Operations:
- Assists in the planning and coordination of the ongoing daily activities of the department.
- May perform low-risk audits as well as help more experienced members of the team with specific audit testing.
- Performs special assignments as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS: (Minimum education required to perform the duties of this position)
• Bachelor's degree is required; a concentration in business administration, finance, accounting and related subjects is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Retail banking experience preferred.
• Must have basic knowledge of information technology systems.
• Must have intermediate level computer skills in word processing, spread sheets and internet.
• Proven track record in handling confidential matters in a discrete fashion.
• Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively with peers, Senior Management, external auditors and bank examiners.
• Solid analytical skills along with good communications skills, both written and oral.
• An understanding of risk and identification of exposures.
• Demonstrates good decision-making.
COMPETENCIES:
• Must have cyber security awareness to protect the digital environment, the Bank, and customers.
