The AIDS Center of Queens County, Inc. (ACQC) has a strong commitment to providing HIV/AIDS prevention, care and advocacy for individuals throughout the borough of Queens. ACQC is seeking a Staff Accountant to be responsible for maintaining accurate general ledger records for the organization and supporting the financial reporting process and external audit requirements, in accordance with financial calendar requirements.
Responsibilities
- Maintain bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile accrued expenses and prepaid expenses monthly.
- Monitor fixed assets.
- Prepare vouchers and other reports for various funding agencies.
- Staff Accountant will prepare budgets and supporting schedules for various grants including cost based and performance-based grants.
- Produce and submit budget modifications where there are changes in the scope of the projects.
- Prepare monthly journal entries pertaining to grant related activities, capitalization of fixed assets, interest income and interest expenses.
- Staff Accountant will analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Post journal entries accordingly.
- Report and communicate to grant managers and service contract managers.
- Staff Accountant will assist with preparation financial schedules monthly for management.
- Review and post accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Review and enter contracts into the general ledger.
- Ad hoc projects/other duties as assigned.
Qualifications for staff Accountant
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required with 1-2 years’ experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required and Fund EZ preferred
- Strong attention to detail and analysis
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Effectively handle multiple tasks and flexibility to accommodate new requests
- Sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and gender orientation differences.
The Staff Accountant position is a full-time, non-exempt position, based in Jamaica, Queens near the LIRR and E, F and J trains.The ideal candidate for the Staff Account position will be a team player with strong accounting skills and attention to detail.
