Teachers - Aide: Job Description PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Under the supervision of the administrative team, the teacher -aide is a person of faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education, which are: Embraces and models the Catholic philosophy of educationPromotes and lives the Gospel values and Catholic moral teachingUpholds the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic ChurchAssists in preparing the students in their care to live a faith life in today's Church and societyGives evidence of Catholic living by the example of their livesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The teacher-aide assumes responsibility for the students by demonstrating sound management practices in a caring and safe environment. The teacher-aide realizes that the classroom teacher is in charge in the classroom and that they are present to assist in whatever duties are asked of them. Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following: Under the direct guidance of the teacher, performs any school duties which will enhance learning and help the teacher be more efficient and effectiveCooperates with the teacher for the smooth running of the classroom environment Participates at weekly mass and assists with proper church behaviorSupervises the children at bathroom and water breaksSupervises the children during recess and lunch breakWorks with small groups of children within the classroom environment according to the instructions of the teacherMay be called upon to teach part or all of a lesson in the absence of the teacherProvides teacher assistance by making copies, performing secretarial jobs within the classroom, preparing supplies for activities, and clean-upMay be called upon to translate for the teacher during parent-teacher conferencesMay be called upon by the administrative team to assist in another classroom if there is a special need or emergencyCooperates with all staff members for the smooth running of the academic environmentKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Must demonstrate personal self-discipline, be adaptable and flexible in routine and unexpected situationsMust use good judgement in daily encounters with staff and parentsMust maintain good grooming and dress in a modest and professional manner at all timesMust arrive on time for work each day and conform to the HR practices of signing in/out each morning, before and after lunch, and at the end of the work dayMust inform the administrative team and the classroom teacher if sick or absent
