SR. TAX ACCOUNTANT – JOB DESCRIPTION
Sr. Tax Accountant Responsibilities:
The Sr. Tax Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the tax compliance and reporting processes for the Company. The Sr. Tax Accountant is responsible for tax accounting transactions and related government reporting for all fuel purchases and sales. The Sr. Tax Accountant will also assist with other tax reporting and provide expertise as dictated by business needs. The Sr. Tax Accountant will lead, develop and train the Jr. Tax Accountant. The Sr. Tax accountant reports directly to the Accounting Manager.
Sr. Tax Accountant duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the daily tax accounting transactions related to the purchase and sale of fuel
- Prepare Federal, State, and Local tax returns, related to the purchase and sale of fuel, by collecting, analyzing, and formatting financial information
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local tax legal requirements related to the purchase and sale of fuel and
- Stay abreast of changes to tax laws and assess their impact on the organization
- Research and resolve excise, sales, income, and any other tax notices received by various tax jurisdictions
- Provide strategic tax planning advice to minimize tax liabilities an optimize financial outcomes
- Collaborate with management to develop and implement tax-efficient strategies
- Prepare business related tax filings with governmental agencies
- Understand the various tax accounting and reporting requirements for different business structures and be able to advise management on tax implications of strategic business decisions
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications
- Lead, manage, train and develop tax team
Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Several years of progressive experience in tax accounting with a focus on compliance and planning
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and experience with Federal and State tax laws and reporting requirements
- Ability to establish and meet deadlines and to quickly develop clear priorities
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner when dealing with employees, suppliers, company contacts and governmental representatives
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in fuel industry, understanding of tax requirements in multiple states
- Experience with tax research tolls and resources
- Familiarity with international tax regulations
Hours:
The Sr. Tax Accountant is a full time position and works a minimum of 40 hours per week
Salary/Income:
The Sr. Tax Accountant is an exempt, salaried position
