What Product or Services Marketing contributes to Cardinal Health
Marketing is responsible for assessing customer needs, market conditions and competition to inform business strategy. Marketing implements the strategy through developing, commercializing and monitoring the appropriate products and services.
Product or Services Marketing is responsible for defining the product/service and market strategy and life cycle management including customer need identification, market research, product or service offering, pricing, positioning, promotion, branding and distribution to drive customer loyalty, sales growth and improved profitability.


Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide effective management of Cardinal Health’s Clinical Chemistry product portfolio. This role has dual responsibility for both National Brand and Cardinal Health brand offerings. This senior Product Manager will monitor the Clinical Chemistry market and develop portfolio growth strategies inclusive of new products, channels, capabilities, and supplier expansion. This person will be responsible for developing collaborative relationships with key National Brand suppliers and implementing strategies to drive mutual growth. This role will also drive new Cardinal Health brand offerings within Clinical Chemistry. In this role you will also be responsible for collaborating with downstream marketing to develop marketing tactics to drive profitable growth.

Key responsibilities include the development and implementation of growth strategies for the Clinical Chemistry portfolio. Conducts primary and secondary market research efforts to support the development of the portfolio strategic direction. Identifies and proactively seeks new product portfolio opportunities for new and existing products, including full Stage and Gate activities to support Laboratory Products revenue, profit and market share objectives. Creates and leads cross functional teams to drive new product and channel opportunities as well as defines needed capabilities and services to support growth. This role is also accountable for the management of key supplier relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses a customer/supplier mindset that enables effective partnerships and accelerated growth. Supplier engagement on portfolio growth strategies, new technologies and potential private label opportunities.
  • Identification of downstream marketing activities with specific focuses on increased awareness of our Clinical Chemistry offering.
  • Establishes and oversees tracking of financial objectives, including product line growth, profitability, market share, product life cycle and internal performance metrics (service levels, back orders, etc.)
  • Analyzes the competitive product environment for Clinical Chemistry products, including understanding pricing, promotions, product and service offerings, and market approaches. Actively manages the competitive positioning of key features and advantages through the maintenance of effective and regular communications with sales, supplier partners, and other key functional groups. Develops the required sales tools to support rep mindshare and customer engagement.
  • Provides accurate and up-to-date information regarding product trends, technology shifts, regulation changes and related market activities through in-depth review of research reports, technical and trade publications/journals, trade show attendance, association meetings and customer visits.
  • Guides problem resolution to resolve quality, delivery, inventory, operations, and pricing issues.
  • Maintains cadence of interactions with key lab personnel relative to category, through either sales force collaboration, VOC, advisory council, and/or customer site visits. Develops relationships internally and externally to reinforce the value of Cardinal Health.
  • Maintains cadence of interactions with current and potential supplier partners. Responsible for ongoing relationship development and building to enhance and promote value of distribution through Cardinal Health.
  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy of product data characteristics and attributes through new item set up and periodic item maintenance by partnering with internal and external stakeholders and resources.
  • Leads training and provide positioning guidance to the field sales organization, as well as other customer and business support staff. This training will include product application training, product positioning, competitive market landscape, general market trend landscape (i.e. federal and other related impacts) and key customer business dynamics.

Knowledge, Skill Sets and Abilities

  • In-laboratory experience realized through education, sales experience, or otherwise laboratory customer facing experience is desired.
  • Product launch experience (Stage and Gate understanding, downstream marketing, successful implementation and process appreciation).
  • Clinical Chemistry product related/application experience.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of marketing disciplines and concepts necessary for building a business & marketing plan. This includes identifying the appropriate channel strategies and tactics as well as marketing plan development (programs, tactics, campaigns to increase awareness and generate leads).
  • Has the ability to understand market trends and competitive positioning to ensure portfolio competitiveness.
  • Exhibits an ability to translate market and customer needs into clearly defined goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics to drive sales & profitability for the business. Accountable for gaining and driving cross functional support from all stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work cross functionally with business leadership, sales, finance, legal, operations, quality, inventory and sourcing.
  • Effective relationship building with key stakeholders to influence activity in the Clinical Chemistry portfolio. Utilize these relationships to continually position Cardinal Health as the distributor of choice in the clinical lab market.
  • Strong financial acumen and logical decision making in the general business environment; understands and demonstrates sound thought processes as it relates to portfolio profitization, deal structure and assessing financial implications.
  • Experience in product or sales training, as well as customer presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred.
  • 8+ years experience in product marketing, preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the Clinical Lab market, preferred.

Anticipated salary range: $102,000 - $145,700
