Summary
As a test engineer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining test systems throughout Lancer, including Engineering Lab, Electronics Back shop, and New Product Development. These systems will be used for experimental evaluations of prototype and commercial equipment/components, and to validate both hardware and software. This position will troubleshoot and diagnose causes of failure and improvement opportunities as both design input and test equipment capabilities. This role supports the future of the organization’s strategic technical priorities.
Essential Functions
• Assemble, install, check, test, and modify equipment and components according to specifications.
• Prepare test reports and communicate test results to engineering and other interested parties.
• Interpret and develop test documentation: customer-specific, technical performance, safety, agency, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Plan, organize and coordinate own work; lead the preparation and communication of project test plans.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining specialized systems and equipment to record test data with LabView programs and the Lab server.
• Consult with engineers to develop and evaluate test plans.
• Propose test methods for innovative concepts and support new fixture design and construction.
• Train technicians in how to set-up and use the LabView software and equipment.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products and equipment performance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Effective communicator, verbally and in writing, with strong and demonstrated interpersonal skills. Effective problem-solving skills. Ability to troubleshoot equipment and processes under minimal supervision.
• Identify causes and solutions to failure or service issues, as well as propose design improvement opportunities.
• Familiar with project management and project planning tools. Able to create project test plans, meet deadlines while conducting project work.
• Experience working with LabVIEW software and National Instruments hardware required.
• Some 3D modeling experience recommended, in at least one of the following platforms: SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or Unigraphics.
• Able to generate product and hardware test plans.
• Functional understanding of electronics and controls.
• Proficient in Office Package. Knowledge of MS Project. Knowledge of AX highly valuable.
Education and Experience
• Minimum BS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited school required.
• Minimum 2 years technical school required, or 5 years demonstrated technical experience.
• Knowledge of industry test standards is highly desirable.
• Experience in a laboratory or testing-related environment highly desirable.
