**This role is hybrid out of our Chicago - Fulton Market Office**
As the lead for legal activities for the company across the region, business units and sub-function areas in the country and/or across multiple countries, you identify business needs and design, develop and drive the implementation of Mondelēz International 's legal strategy through the service delivery model and governance to support commercial and corporate initiatives. You lead and advise the business on risk, anticipating and addressing internal and external factors, direct other legal colleagues in the execution of our legal approach, and decide the direction to take to address legal issues or concerns. In addition, you are also a leader and expert in a legal specialty area of responsibility or are a region or business unit lead; lead, review and revamp legal teams in a continuously changing environment; and ensure the availability of new technologies, systems and services in the strategy framework.
How you will contribute
You will lead in setting and implementing legal strategies that enable Mondelēz International to compete and to protect our people, assets and reputation while complying with legal requirements and standards of ethical conduct. In addition to these contributions, you will also lead the legal team in providing legal services to the company at an optimal cost considering internal and external resources, technologies and systems; provide legal guidance to ensure managers make informed decisions regarding legal operational risks; manage the legal strategy with outside counsel, including spending without compromising financial and reputational risk; address the complex legal environment by partnering with business units, regions and global stakeholders to identify and advise on laws and regulatory changes for a given country and/or across multiple countries identifying risks and opportunities for the company.

Key Responsibilities
Act as legal partner for NA and US BU MDLZ Supply Chain, NA and US BU Procurement and Global Corporate and Professional Services Procurement Spend Area teams. Responsibilities include:
  • Member of the Global Law Team, reporting into the Global Law Lead and dotted line to the NA Legal Lead.
  • Member of NA Legal, NA MDLZ Supply Chain NA Procurement, and Global Corporate and Professional Services Spend Area Leadership Teams.
  • Manage three direct reports.
  • Provide strategic legal guidance and support for Procurement in NA regional and US BU matters, (including the Monterrey/Salinas Hub), and Global Professional Services Spend Area to contract negotiations with suppliers, including strategic guidance related to contractual risk and its cross functional review and approval.
  • Provide strategic legal guidance and support to the new NA MDLZ Supply Chain leadership team, partnering with the NA Transformation Team, regarding projects and transactions with external manufacturers and logistic suppliers, including cross-border transactions.
  • Ensure transactions with external manufacturers in NA and Mexico Salinas/Monterrey Hub comply with the Global External Manufacturing Playbook and all applicable policies and legal requirements. Anticipate BU and regional needs to evolve current governance.
  • Co-lead with Procurement the adoption and change management of the Contract Lifecycle Management tool and Global Buying Policy requirements and processes in NA region, implementing additional needs that arise in the course of business.
  • Anticipate needs to enhance governance for strategic contracts with suppliers in NA, US BU and Global Corporate and Professional Services Procurement Spend Area.
  • Work with the Global Law Team, MDLZ Supply Chain, Procurement and NA Legal Team to find innovative ways to evolve policies, procedures, ways of working and technologies related to contracting, considering global standards in connection with the NA region needs.
  • Anticipate and advise on contracting related issues in an aligned, coordinated manner with the NA business to bring best-in-class thinking to these issues.
  • Partner with the Chief Counsel, Litigation NA to provide legal advice on negotiation strategy related to contractual claims against suppliers.
  • Co-lead with Global Procurement Compliance, NA Litigation Team and outside counsel updates and communication of the global templates and fallback clauses.

Qualifications
  • 10+ Years' experience in a large, international law firm or multi-national corporate in-house legal department.
  • JD from an accredited law school and license to practice law in NY; ability to be licensed in IL.
  • Bilingual is desired: English and Spanish.
  • Proactive and agile mindset and is willing to test and learn.
  • Digitally savvy. Experience with Contract Lifecycle Management tool desirable.
  • Creative, innovative, and strategic in the transactional space.
  • Demonstrated managerial skills.
  • Ability to influence and navigate a matrixed environment, with multiple senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent management skills and business judgment with a capacity to make decisions and give strategic advice in a risk-calibrated manner, demonstrating an understanding of overall business objectives and the risks/rewards of each situation.
  • Experienced in providing advice and support to internal stakeholders to develop, establish and improve internal processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work with others and manage multiple time sensitive matters in a demanding, fast-paced, and matrixed environment.
  • Strong research and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a non-legal audience.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty; ability to adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations.
  • High degree of initiative, self-direction, and ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to oversee and effectively manage outside counsel and internal stakeholders.
  • Experienced in cross border transactions.
  • Must be a team player who can easily handle shifting priorities, multi-tasking in a deadline oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Intellectually curious with ability to process a great deal of information in a fast-paced environment willing to take initiative.
  • Strong client service orientation and demonstrated high level of customer focus and initiative.
  • Must be able to work against tight deadlines.
