In this role, the attorney will support CarMax's captive finance division, CarMax Auto Finance (CAF), as part of the Finance Legal Team. This support includes providing legal counsel and operational risk management for compliance with various consumer law subject matters under CAF's Compliance Management Program, including TILA, ECOA, GLBA, FCRA/Fair Lending, FDCPA, SCRA, EFTA, TCPA, Bankruptcy, their state law equivalents, state Retail Installment Sales Acts, and UCC Article 9. As CarMax continues to grow and explore new opportunities, this attorney also may provide legal expertise and support of special projects and initiatives digitally innovating CarMax's credit platform.
What you will do - Essential Responsibilities

• Legal Adviser for several subject matters under the CAF Compliance Management Program and responsible for analyzing regulatory developments, assessing compliance risks, resolving escalated consumer and regulatory complaints, and ensuring service provider oversight. Note: Subject matters under the CAF Compliance Management Program include TILA, ECOA, GLBA, FCRA/Fair Lending, FDCPA, SCRA, EFTA, TCPA, Bankruptcy, their state law equivalents, state Retail Installment Sales Acts, and UCC Article 9.
• Coordinate credit services research: 1) Research requirements for originating and servicing consumer credit contracts. 2) Identify business impacts and provide legal counsel and operational risk management in connection with evaluating new products and/or updated processes and procedures to comply with federal and state laws.
• Additional responsibilities may include managing litigation; providing legal support and guidance regarding service provider agreements; credit services related forms development and management; and providing legal expertise and support of various projects and initiatives digitally innovating CarMax's credit platform.
• Provide legal guidance and oversight of the support provided by paralegals.
• Lead, manage, coach and develop paralegal(s).
• Provide legal expertise and counsel on special projects as assigned.

Purpose of the role
This role requires a self-motivated, conscientious individual who has strong attention to detail and a drive and curiosity to achieve the best results. The candidate for this role should exhibit strong analytical and reasoning skills required in connection with researching and analyzing laws, assessing impacts on business processes, and making recommendations to business departments that effectively describe legal and operational risks. Strong written and verbal communication skills are key to effectively communicate legal concepts and positions to associates, all levels of management, outside counsel, opposing counsel, and regulatory authorities.
Qualifications and Requirements

• A law degree.
• A member in good standing with the bar of a U.S. jurisdiction.
• 5 or more years of legal practice experience or other comparable experience.
• Previous financial services or other regulatory experience preferred.
