SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY ASSISTANT - Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (EI/ECSE)
Reports to: Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education Director
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION OVERVIEW
As a part of our team of extraordinary educators, you will have the joy of witnessing the development of a student's ability to connect with their world. This position works closely with and under the direct supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), as well as with a team of specialists, supporting children birth through age five in learning the critical communication skills to successfully express themselves and communicate with their peers. This interesting and ever changing position offers opportunities to learn and grow as you work with students as they learn language, accurate articulation, and the ability to engage with others and their environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) certificate from the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology. This certification must be maintained while employed.
2. Adherence to all Oregon Administrative Rules governing Speech Language Pathology Assistants.
3. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people within a team concept.
5. Meet requirements of finger-print-based criminal history record verification.
6. Such alternatives to certain above qualifications may apply as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent and/or Board of Directors.
GENERAL INFORMATION
This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities.

4. Exceptional prioritization of tasks, timely completion of work assignments, ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
5. Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation.
6. Present self and LBL in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication, professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards.
7. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.
8. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
9. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed.
10. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.
11. Provide own transportation to numerous settings within a flexible work schedule.
12. Participate in in-service training programs and other professional growth opportunities, as assigned. [Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)].
13. Strength and agility to assist children with special needs and ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
14. Ability to work in a variety of settings, including classroom, school buildings, office environments and homes.
15. Ability to kneel, crouch and sit in child-sized chairs or on the floor for extended periods of time while working with children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, and duties associated with this position. The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time it's deemed necessary.
1. Conduct speech, language and hearing screenings utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising SLP.
2. Provide direct treatment assistance to identified children/students following written treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP.
3. Document child/student progress toward meeting established objectives stated in the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Maintain records, log notes and written communication in a manner prescribed by the supervising SLP.
4. Comply with all Oregon Administrative rules governing Speech Language Pathology Assistants.
5. Assist the SLP with information documentation during therapy sessions, prepare materials and assist with other clerical duties and maintain student records in a secure and confidential manner at all times.
6. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents, children/students, program/district staff and community service providers.
7. Schedule activities and prepare charts, records, graphs, or other displays of data.
8. Perform equipment set up, operation and maintenance as prescribed by supervising SLP.
9. Participate with the SLP in research projects, in-service training, and public relations programs.
10. Assist with non-instructional classroom duties such as snack, toileting, clothing routines and playground
11. Direct treatment assistance to identified students following written treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP.
12. Manage, maintain, deliver, adapt and modify materials and equipment based on SLP direction.
13. Assist SLP in providing consultation, specialized information, in-service training, technical assistance and follow-up to staff and families.
14. Participate in Medicaid billing process for school-based services as directed.
