Job description

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant 6 hours per day, 9 months per year Temporary position for the remainder of the 23/24 school year We appreciate your interest in employment with Vancouver Public Schools (VPS). As part of the selection process, the District conducts confidential reference checks to include former and present employers and also requires a criminal background investigation. Qualifications:Degree from an accredited speech language Pathology Assistant program and/or any combination of education and experience that meets the requirement of the Washington State Department of Health. Experience in a similar position is preferred.Current Washington State SLPA LicenseValid first aid card.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to follow detailed instructions.Possess valid driver's license, acceptable driving record and insured transportation.Ability to lift and move with children, and to sit with them on the floor.Ability to visually observe the progress of students.

Essential Functions:Treats co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all timesServes as a positive role model for students, and practice the behaviors that are expected of our studentsWorks in a flexible and cooperative mannerConducts speech and language screenings without interpretation, utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising SLP.As directed by the SLP, provides direct treatment assistance to patients/clients by following written treatment plans or protocols developed by the SLP.Documents patient/client progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established objectives as stated in the treatment plan and reports this information to the SLP.Assists with recording informal documentation during an intervention session (collecting, summarizing, and tallying data as directed by the SLP), Assists in collecting and tallying of data for assessment purposes, without interpretation. Signs and initial treatment notes for supervising SLP's review and signature.Schedules activities and prepares charts, records, graphs or other displays of data.Performs checks and maintenance of equipment.Provides instructional support to students as directed. Instructs individuals or small groups of students with speech and language needs, following a prescribed program.Prepares materials prescribed by the teacher, the IEP, or lesson plan.

Instructs small student groups and provides one-on-one tutoring of students as directed by the SLP.Organizes and manages student data and records.Identifies and describes clinically relevant student behaviors.Uses cues/prompts with the student as defined in the treatment protocol prescribed by the supervising SLP.Provides behavioral reinforcement consistent with the student's developmental age, cultural preference and communication disorder as prescribed by the SLP.Reviews and summarizes student performance according to the protocol prescribed by the SLP at the end of each session.Prepares age-appropriate and culturally sensitive treatment materials appropriate to the student's developmental age and communication disorder as prescribed by the SLP.Ability to work independently and in a team-setting.Ability to effectively listen to and work harmoniously with others.Ability to work effectively with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.Participate in ongoing continuing education to ensure continued professional competence and licensure.Perform tasks and assume responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements. Benefits/Compensation: Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts, may receive experience credit towards salary placement.

Time Off: Vancouver Public Schools offers paid holidays and paid time off, including but not limited to, sick, vacation, personal, and bereavement leave.Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).Personal Leave: 3 days per school year Twelve (12) month full-time Pro Tech employees are eligible to accrue ten (10) days vacation at one (1) - five (5) years of service. The accrual days are incrementally improved by five (5) days at the completion of five (5), eleven (11) and twenty (20) consecutive years of service respectively.
