The Managed Care Pharmacy Internship is any student currently enrolled in a pharmacy school. This year-round part-time internship will provide experience in a managed care setting and careers opportunities as a pharmacist. The internship focuses on improving the student’s clinical knowledge, drug literature analysis, clinical writing, data analysis, and value assessment. The internship assists to develop additional skills including effective communication, proficient project management, and delivering presentations within a managed care environment. The diverse variety of experiences at Lumicera will position the intern to pursue further practice in various managed care areas and managed care residencies. Interns will be involved in clinical projects with pharmacists in a wide range of departments, including Specialty Pharmacy, formulary operations, clinical programs, industry relations, drug information, and more.

How do I make an impact on my team?
- Accept inbound calls from patients, prescribers, or other health professionals in support of the Specialty Pharmacy functions
- Make outbound calls to patients, prescribers, and insurance providers to verify and/or gather prescription or clinical information relevant to assess appropriate therapy, corresponding to scope of practice within guidelines established from regulatory bodies including state, Pharmacy Board and accredited pharmacy school
- Collecting clinical information and perform clinical disease state and drug consultations, corresponding to scope of practice within guidelines established from regulatory bodies including state, Pharmacy Board and accredited pharmacy school.
- Utilize operating systems and tools to help manage patient therapy and refill compliance.
- Assist in answering incoming phone calls when clinical intervention is needed, corresponding to scope of practice within guidelines established from regulatory bodies including state, Pharmacy Board and accredited pharmacy school.
- Act in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and with the highest ethical standards. Thus, legal and ethical compliance is an essential duty of each employee.

- Documents and reports medication errors to direct supervisor. Facilitates error reduction and prevention methods based off errors and ISMP standards. Performs FMEA risk assessments of new to market medications.
- Participate in the quality management program including participating in committees focused on monitoring and evaluation of performance data. Participate in quality improvement initiatives based on outcomes of those evaluations.
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required.
- Must be enrolled in an ACPE accredited Pharmacy School
- Pharmacy experience strongly preferred
- Arizona only: Current and active state Intern Registration/License.
