The Southern Museum of Civil Warand Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia is currently seeking an energetic andresponsible individual for the position of Operations Manager. The Southern Museum, located 22 miles northof downtown Atlanta, is part of the prestigious Smithsonian AffiliationsProgram and home to the steam locomotive "General." The Museum includes Civil War and railroadexhibitions, a recreation of an early 20th century locomotivefactory, the Jolley Education Center, and a Research Center Library and Archives.The Operations Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and directingdaily museum operations. This is asupervisory position, second only to the Executive Director, which offers theunique opportunity to creatively contribute to the success of a progressive anddynamic institution. Examplesof Work
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates education, visitorservices, and collections staff. Develops and coordinates staff schedules; organizes, prioritizes, andassigns work.
- Manages museumeducation initiatives and oversees the development of educational programmingwhile providing guidance, direction and expertise to staff. Conducts tours and programs as needed.
- Directs visitorservices functions including events and rentals program, oversees admissionssales and procedures, and supervises gift shop and retail sales activities.
- Overseesexhibitions and collections including management of daily archival andcuratorial staff responsibilities and activities.
- Assists indeveloping and implementing short and long-range museum goals. Creates and maintains policies and proceduresfor effective operations.
- Manages financesand assists in developing and implementing museum operations budget. Enters and maintains finances through GEMSsoftware, monitors expenditures against approved budget, prepares and processespurchase orders and invoices and analyzes revenue.
- Performs generalcustomer service and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of citizensregarding Museum programs, policies and/or personnel.
Scheduleand Compensation
Primary schedule is Tuesday throughSaturday (although flexibility is required as based on supervisory and museumprogram needs). This is a fulltime salariedexempt city government position with excellent benefits. Starting salary range for this positionbegins at $57,711.64 based upon qualifications and years of relevant/professionalexperience. Candidates may also beeligible for partial relocation expenses.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in education, history, museum studies, or relatedfield supplemented by five years of progressively responsible managementexperience in museum or learning center programing, curriculum development, educationalevent coordination, and/or museum operations. Excellentcommunication and writing skills including the ability to write educationalcurriculums and exhibition texts, develop operational policies, and make verbalpresentations. Ability to learn CivilWar and Reconstruction, Industrialization, southern social history, and southeasternrailroad history. Superior supervisoryabilities, people skills, and management competencies. Effective organization and budgetingcapabilities.
