About the Opportunity:
As a Sonographer Trainee, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic procedures under the supervision of a registered cardiac sonographer. Your role involves assessing cardiac structure and hemodynamics in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians. This hands-on experience will contribute to your professional development in the field, providing valuable insights into cardiovascular diagnostics and patient care. Your work will play a crucial role in supporting the healthcare team's efforts to ensure accurate and thorough assessments of cardiac health.
If accepted into the program, Summa Health covers the cost of the training. All trainees must sign a work agreement committing to work for at least two years at Summa Health after graduation from the program.
Here’s how it works :
- Selected candidates are hired as a Sonographer Trainee
- The trainee is paid a salary and given training for one year
- After training, the trainee will take the Registry Exam
- After passing the exam, the trainee will transfer to a full-time cardiac sonographer after graduation.

Summary :
Under the supervision of a registered sonographer, the trainee will complete a specialty specific online course. This training is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in echocardiography or vascular ultrasound. The guidance from the registered sonographer ensures that the trainee receives proper instruction and mentorship throughout the course, facilitating a thorough understanding of procedures and protocols. This hands-on training approach aims to prepare the trainee for successful and proficient performance in the field of cardiac or vascular ultrasound.
The job responsibilities include setting up and adjusting all equipment, manually maneuvering transducers to perform exams, implementing safety standards, and conducting appropriate quality control procedures. The individual in this role will perform a routine specialty ultrasound (echo or vascular) under the supervision of a registered sonographer of that specialty. This involves ensuring the proper function of the equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and maintaining quality standards to deliver accurate and reliable results.
Formal Education Required :
A graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science, (e.g., cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, exercise physiology, nursing, etc.
OR
Student currently enrolled in a Sonography program with at least one year of training (combined didactic and clinical) specific to field of posted position.
Experience & Training Required :
One (1) year of recent (within the past 5 years) professional work experience in health science area of diploma.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
If RN applicant - must have a current RN license in the State of Ohio, BSN, preferred.
Essential Functions:
1) Observe and care for patients throughout examinations to ensure their safety and comfort
2) Prepare patient for exam, explain procedure, select appropriate equipment settings, and adjust patient to proper positions to obtain high quality diagnostic information
3) Determine whether scope of exam should be extended, based on findings.
4) Complete appropriate documentation of technical findings for physician use in medical diagnosis
5) Obtain and review accurate patient history, including prior test results or information from physical examinations
6) Clean, check, and maintain ultrasound equipment
7) Maintain stock and supplies in rooms, preparing supplies for special examination when necessary

Level of Physical Demands:
a. Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
b. Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.

$28.00/hr - $28.00/hr
The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
