Position Summary
The Solar Field Testing Technician II is responsible for performing pre-construction soil and foundation testing. Values collected during testing are used in the design and installation of steel pile foundations for solar PV module racking.
Primary Responsibilities (Essential Duties)
Ensure proper calibration on all testing equipment and tools.
Perform load testing on driven steel piles and/or screw steel piles while adhering to internal engineering standards.
Record load testing data using a tablet or other computerized devices.
Survey test locations using handheld GPS device.
Identify basic soil types, collect soil samples for analysis.
Adhere to OSHA and internal safety standards for equipment operation where applicable.
Document issues while on project sites that could impact cost, design, engineering, and installation.
Travel to projects nationally from assigned hub.
Operate a pile driver and/or drill rig, skid steer, mini-excavator, ATV, and/or rotary mower.
Provide mentorship, training, and ensure the safe work ethic of the Technicians and/or temporary workers assigned.
Document, report, and communicate work performance, progress, test results, and all issues that could impact project cost, design, engineering, or installation.
Complete all required or directed training, certification, licensing, and other learning and development as assigned.
Abide by all Federal, State, and local laws; uphold and maintain accountability to all Company policy.
Perform project site visits to review and document conditions as well as provide feasibility assessments.
Drive up to a one-ton sized truck while towing a trailer loaded with equipment; must maintain a valid drivers license.
All other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications

Education / Experience (an equivalent combination of education and/or experience)
- Associate Degree in Science, Civil or Construction Management Years of Experience
- 3+ Years of Experience in Science, Civil or Construction
- 3+ Years of Experience in Heavy equipment operation
Technical Skills
Familiarity of the Microsoft Office Suite, Windows, iOS, Google Earth, blueprints
Licenses / Certifications
OSHA 30, Hoisting Engineer License (MA), Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements
Work is performed mostly in remote outdoor and uncovered areas exposed to varying elements, allergens, weather conditions, temperatures, and wildlife. Work requires large amounts of time spent standing, stooping, kneeling, bending or twisting at the waist, and walking on uneven or slippery ground conditions. Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs. unassisted. Will be routinely exposed to loud noises (100+ dB). Must be able to work in sustained extreme temperatures (<10° F, >90° F). Will be required to wear PPE including, but not limited to, safety boots, hard hat, eye and ear protection. Must be able to give and receive verbal communications in English for HAZCOM.
