TouchNet, a Global Payments Company, is seeking a Software Engineer Intern for summer 2024. This program will last from 6/3/2024 - 8/9/2024 and will be a full 40 hour-a-week schedule, with some schedule flexibility within. This is an hourly, paid position.
Location
Preference for locality near Lenexa, Kansas (Kansas City metro area) office - with a hybrid in-office/remote work schedule. Fully remote option is available if the applicant is not local to Kansas City, given the ability to adhere to a central time zone schedule (~8:30AM - 5:00PM CDT).
Qualifications
Applicants in their Sophomore, Junior or Senior undergraduate program - including programs in Software Engineering, computer science, computer engineering or similar - will be considered. Must have:
- Interest in learning IT/Software Engineering practices and methodologies. This particular position would also be involved in developing and maintaining both existing and new software projects.
- Expectation of hands-on, technical work assignments - such as completing user stories, writing unit tests and participating in code reviews. Training on these skill sets will be included in the program.
- Openness to learning development tools - such as software ticketing systems (Atlassian Jira or Rally), technical documentation (such as Swagger API), diagramming tools (Lucid Charts, schema diagramming), code repositories (primarily GitHub Enterprise and Bitbucket).
- Drive to self-initiate learning, project and training opportunities - within a well-supported team environment.
- Rising Sophomore to Graduate Students currently enrolled in College or University
- Interns must be willing to attend a two-day orientation on Eastern Standard Time.
Responsibilities
Intern will work within the Retail team, part of the Product Development (PD) department at TouchNet Information Systems. TouchNet PD consists of approximately 20 scrum teams, developing and supporting software applications for higher education focused payment solutions.
- Position will learn general software development practices, including Agile methodologies, rituals, scrum and Kanban. Intern will participate in solution design/grooming processes, project estimation, scrum practices and sprint planning/retros/demos within a data product development environment.
- Intern may be assigned user stories involving the various products owned by the team.
- Intern will interface with all members of the team to estimate and complete user stories and participate in code reviews for other members of the team.
