Position Summary:
The School Social Worker is a grant funded position that works to help families in situations of crisis, abuse and neglect, in addition to supporting other areas of social-emotional need affecting student academic achievement. The position responds to issues directly, by facilitating meetings and/or by coordinating services with outside parties such as Child Protective Services, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and other community-based organizations and maintain adherence to federal and state statutes, professional development and practices, School Social Work Standards and the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics. The School Social Worker works remotely with statewide travel for home visits, meetings, and professional development as required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Evaluates students to determine their need for school social work or other services
- Participates in the Student Assistance Program
- Participates as member of Individual Education Plan (IEP) team, and other school based teams to develop interventions for promoting students' academic success when needed
- Provides staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues affecting student participation in the learning process
- Develops programs to address parent/guardian participation in the school and student engagement in the educational process
- Develop and implement intervention and prevention programs that assist in the reduction of at-risk students, including implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) utilizing evidenced- based interventions
- Provides information to students and parents about services available within the community. Makes referrals to community providers, as appropriate.
- Serves as a liaison between various treatment, social services, and judicial institutions to account for students' whereabouts, as well as track and facilitate students' transitions to ensure student success.
- Conducts home visits as needed related to establishing communication and positive connections between the parent/guardian and school setting around identified issues
- Attends team meetings and participates in professional development activities as required
- Maintains confidentiality
- Serves as point-of-contact for teachers and administration for families in crisis; follows up with families by phone or in-person, coordinates with external agencies (e.g. Child Protective Services, The Department of Juvenile Justice, community service agencies, etc.) as needed
- Ability to travel within and between assigned geographic areas to support staff, students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, and participate in school activities, and orientations
- Provides crisis intervention and support to students and families during emergencies or critical incidents.
- Collaborates with community-based organizations to develop partnerships and resources for students and families.
- Participates in data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of social-emotional interventions and programs.
- Travel to student testing sites (PSSA/Keystone) which may include overnight accommodations
- Home visits as appropriate
- Attend and participate in school-wide community events as required and assigned
- Attend graduation ceremony annually
- Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars and department meetings.
- Serves on committees, task forces, work groups, etc., as requested.
- Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends, instructional and educational technologies.
- Other duties, special projects and travel as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work; Master's Degree preferred
- Pennsylvania license as a Social Worker
- Experience working in the field
- Experience working in education
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology

- Strong presentation, facilitation, and organization skills
- Ability to stay focused and meet deadlines and be self-motivated
- Knowledge of:
