JOB TITLE: Shift Lead Trainee
Job Summary: Shift Leaders are responsible for both serving the customer and ensuring that the customer gets “The Ultimate Ice Cream Experience” by being friendly, fast and efficient, as well as holding Crew Members to the same standards while working alongside them.
Shift Leaders are responsible for maintaining a neat and appealing store by daily cleaning of all areas, including the bathrooms, service area, lobby, and kitchen, as well as overseeing Crew Members in the completion of these tasks as well.
Shift Leaders are responsible for keeping the working area immaculate and appealing by restocking items, handling food in a safe manner, and following all required procedures and practices, as well as ensuring compliance with these procedures and practices among all Crew Members.
Shift Leaders are expected to act with passion and integrity, while maintaining the best interests of the brand and company.
This position aims to develop individuals with some leadership experience in quick-service restaurants and other retail establishments into Shift Leaders at Cold Stone Creamery in a span of 90 days or less.
Job Responsibilities:
- Accurately handling cash, including making change, tracking coupons, and discounts. Knowing and understanding how to operate the POS system (cash register).
- Maintaining a clean store environment. This includes; cleaning equipment, floors, service area, and bathroom, and store exterior; removing trash; mopping, washing dishes; cleaning floor drains. Many of these tasks will require bending, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling, and using ladders. Correctly using all checklists.
- Providing great customer service. This includes fast, friendly service; welcome customers within 3 seconds of entering store; keeping the service area stocked and neat; knowing the ingredients in all of the Cold Stone Signature Creations, and singing. Be the best…be #1!
- Practicing food safety procedures daily. Correctly use all checklists. Conform to uniform and personal hygiene directives to ensure the serving of safe food to our customers.
- Conducting inventories and preparing stock. This requires working in the walk in freezer (-10 degrees Fahrenheit), and refrigerator (35-38 degrees Fahrenheit). Correctly using all checklists and math skills.
- Scooping correct amount of ice cream. Preparing the customer’s order using correct amount of mix-ins. Properly ringing customers in the POS system, ensuring that items are not under-rung or over-rung.
- Preparing products on the co-brand “Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory” that we have in-house. Maintaining a neat display of caramel apples, chocolates, and retail items. Properly packaging chocolates and cutting/packing caramel apples. Properly ringing Rocky Mountain products in the POS system.
- Ensuring that the above procedures are followed by crew members and providing coaching/warning when necessary. Completion of all provided checklists and forms to ensure standards are met and to document issues related to customer service, employee compliance, cost controls, and other administrative actions.
- Handling customer complaints and assisting with operational issues whenever necessary. Involvement should be at a point where you are knowledgeable about everything that occurred during a shift and are able to answer questions when asked.
- Monitoring crew activities; enforcing cost controls, cash controls, customer service controls, and policy & procedural controls to ensure smooth operations and uniform experience for every guest that visits the store.
- Following any ad-hoc directives and other duties as assigned by Management.
Performance Standards:
- Complete all computer-based training modules during new hire training program.
- Consistently enforce sales goals and other measured metrics (i.e. Mix-in %, Waffle %, Signature Creations, Love-it and Gotta-Have-It sales, etc) amongst crew members, and identify crew members that may need further training and coaching.
- Pass all training tests with a 90% score or better.
- Maintaining a valid Food Service Manager card in Prince George’s County (highly preferred).
