The TMP Supply Chain Manager is responsible for the sourcing, procurement, quality, cost, logistics and delivery execution of either Forgings & Machining, Sand Castings, Investment Castings, Fabrications, that support New Manufacturing, Overhaul and Service Parts.
The objectives of the position are to: 1) ensure the supplier value stream performance is consistent with and synchronized with Solar’s Manufacturing operations and Customer Services demand and 2) serve as the industry expert for a particular value stream category and develop and execute a supplier sourcing strategy that supports our business growth and cost reduction targets and delivers year over year supplier performance improvement.

Market Difficulty: Simple to Moderately Complex - A balance of simple commodities (as defined by commodities with multiple supplier options, focus on measuring / developing metrics / considering / qualifying additional vendors, impact of supplier quality issues low in light of strategic company direction) and commodities whose scarcity or quality failure have a greater impact on business success, less easy to replace vendors.
Nature and Scope
This position reports directly to the Area Manager, Engine, Gas Compressor and Gears Supply Chain and is accountable for the development, communication and implementation of a worldwide sourcing strategy and the corresponding demand management strategy for the Turbotec (Tijuana facility) Supply chain. The Supply Chain Manager collaborates with Business Unit Managers to create a competitive advantage for our customers and the enterprise by developing, optimizing, and integrating a world-class supply base.
This person will manage a high-performing team of Direct Supply Chain professionals who will develop a capable supply base. Reporting directly to this position are Sourcing Specialists, Buyers, Supplier Technical Engineers and Supply Chain Coordinators.
Through a strong knowledge of the value stream category and best practices in procurement, demand/response planning, quality performance management, and Lean principles, the incumbent will set and sustain strategy. The incumbent will lead teams to fully understand the requirements and performance of the supply base and will evaluate strategic options; decide a course of action and implement. The incumbent will be required to develop relationships with internal customers (Turbotec, Desoto, Zatec, Mabank, Broken Arrow, Service Parts, Packing Systems Operation, Turbomachinery Operations and other Supply Chain Value Streams) and external suppliers at a senior to executive level to develop long range supply strategies that ensure Solar has the Supply Chain capacity to support future growth.
This position requires the following:
Understanding of governmental, environmental, political, and geographic factors that influence a supply base (including support of Global Trade Compliance).
Knowledge and experience in global sourcing, demand management and procurement principles.
Knowledge of Quality and Cost Modeling tools
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles as applied by Solar and our Suppliers
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Up to 25% Business travel
Principal Accountabilities
The Supply Chain Manager is Responsible for the quality, delivery, cost, and velocity of purchased material to the internal customer. The role will encompass managing suppliers delivering into Solar’s facilities. It will require a strong communicator capable of keeping the customer fully informed of progress and working closely with the customer to ensure requirements are met.
The incumbent will provide leadership through:
Development, mentoring and training of personnel capable of delivering a supplier strategy for the assigned value stream category.
Identification of performance gaps within the supply base and development of improvement plans for the identified gaps.
Maintaining and promoting the highest level of professionalism and business ethics.
Guiding, directing, and coaching both departmental resources and supporting resources outside of the department to create effective value streams.
Develop, communicate and implement a worldwide sourcing strategy and corresponding demand management strategy for assigned value stream category (with Sourcing Specialist). Collaborate with Business Unit Managers to develop, optimize, and integrate a world-class supply base – adding and expanding as needed based on an understanding of customer demand/requirements (input from Mfg Master Scheduler and Customer Services) and the capability & capacity of the value stream supply base.
Identify performance gaps within the supply base and develop improvement plans for the identified gaps, establish raw material requirements for the value stream and ensure engaged suppliers have a complementary market/ business strategy.
Create capacity within the supply base. Deploy lean procurement strategy within supply base. Ensure that key suppliers adopt Lean Six Sigma and structure their operations to support pull deployment processes. Develop and maintain accurate value stream maps of suppliers’ processes. Establish supermarket requirements with internal customers and meet or exceed on-time delivery/supermarket availability performance targets established with the customer. Develop, measure and drive corrective action based on lean metrics to create total value stream transformations.
Provide leadership and guidance to supplier development plans. Drive relationships with a focus on quality and metrics and evaluate the level of supplier process improvement initiatives through a cost benefit analysis. Conduct capacity planning and participate in long – range strategic planning. Act on opportunities for joint Solar and supplier technology development and evaluate / resolve Intellectual Property issues. Ensure ongoing improvement plans are in effect with key suppliers through sponsorship / leadership of Lean initiatives / process improvements within supply stream and authorize on-site support of suppliers as needed (Solar employee and/ or contractor.) Ensure supplier community embodies Solar’s EH&S standards. Drive complex relationships including the development of alliance suppliers.
Provide leadership for internal process improvement through sponsorship and leadership of continuous improvement projects. Develop both current and future state value stream maps and drive towards the future state using MGPP’s. Meet delivery, response time, lead-time, quality and Manufacturing Cycle Time targets.
Establish budget for value stream supplier travel, tooling, PPAP activities, supplier development activities, sourcing activities, etc.
Keep current on the trends and definition of "world class" manufacturing through relationships with / memberships in applicable organizations and may drive benchmarking initiatives with best in class manufacturing organizations such as the Institute of Supply Chain Management.
Minimum Requirements
Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field
Ten years of combined experience; in procurement, management, or manufacturing
Preferred Requirements
Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field
Fifteen years of combined experience: in procurement, management, or manufacturing
Professional certification in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management; e.g., Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) / Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.), Certified in Production, Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified in Integration Resource Management (CIRM).
Demonstrated success developing, mentoring, training and successfully leading teams, including excellent communication, organizational planning, and interpersonal skills.
Certification in 6 Sigma as a Black Belt or Master Black Belt.
Experience in BaaN 5C or ERP LN, Windchill, and Coupa
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary for this role ranges from $152,832.00 to $229,248.00. Actual salary will be based on experience. The total rewards package, beyond base salary includes:
