Job Description
Manages environmental compliance activities for the US facilities. Ensures timely submission of environmental regulatory reports for applicable US facilities. Develops and implements environmental programs and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Interacts with and prepares written responses to regulatory authorities to resolve environmental compliance concerns/issues. Manages designated safety programs according to regulatory requirements and handles associated training and recordkeeping. Leads employee incident investigations for designated areas to identify root cause and drive corrective action plans. Supports OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) certification through effective leadership of designated element teams and collaboration with VPP Coordinator to ensure site compliance. EHS representative and auditor for EHS compliance audits of designated US facilities.
 
 
Responsibilities

  • Monitors and analyzes environmental regulations enacted by governmental agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Texas Commission on Environmental  Quality (TCEQ), and local regulators to assess the potential impact to Company operations.
  • Ensures accurate completion and timely submission of environmental regulatory reports required for applicable US facilities e.g. TWDB, TRI, Tier II, AWS, wastewater treatment reporting, etc. Ensures that permits and/or licenses required by regulatory agencies are obtained and kept current e.g. SPCC, air emissions (PBRs), etc.
  • Develops, reviews, and recommends improvements to environmental programs and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Drives and supports implementation of environmental programs at the US facilities. Creates and facilitates employee training on environmental compliance requirements.
  • Manages safety-related regulatory programs as assigned to ensure compliance with requirements. Develops training material and conducts employee training as needed. Responsible to maintain records associated with designated programs. Tracks costs associated with program management. Assists with developing new or updated EHS procedures based on process or regulatory changes, work area modifications, and/or employee or management feedback.
  • Manages employee and temporary contract labor personnel safety incidents for designated departments. Conducts Tier 1 incident investigations, manages the incident corrective action plan, and maintains employee incident documentation. Works with department leadership and/or Human Resources regarding adverse safety behaviors and trends that impact the work environment.
  • Member of the Corporate EHS Audit Team. Leads EHS audits of MK facilities to ensure workplace conditions comply with applicable local, state, and federal EHS regulatory requirements and company standards and ensures that all applicable and required records are prepared and maintained. Inputs audit findings in the electronic audit system, assigns action items to the appropriate personnel, and tracks status to closure.
  • Conducts routine walkthroughs of designated areas at the US MFG/R&D facility to check compliance with EHS regulatory requirements, evaluates employee concerns, and/or corrects any immediate issues. Participates in special projects as the EHS representative related to designated areas as needed.
  • Supports implementation of OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) at the US MFG/R&D site. Serves as the EHS Champion for VPP Safety Element Teams as assigned. Provides guidance, training, and support to VPP Element Team members to ensure the goals/objectives of the team are accomplished. Works in conjunction with the entire EHS team to provide procedural guidance to site leadership regarding the VPP.
  • Performs the environmental review of all chemicals used at the US MFG/R&D facility prior to arriving onsite and provides approval status. This includes completing waste classification on new chemicals in the electronic system.
  • Represents the Company during on-site inspections by environmental regulatory agencies, obtaining assistance and information, when necessary, from the area under review. Reviews violations and prepares written responses outlining action plans for compliance and assures that action plans are implemented to avoid substantial fines or possible shutdown of the facilities.
  • Investigates site environmental compliance incidents, determines regulatory reporting requirements, and works with impacted departments to identify and manage corrective actions. 
  • This job requires on-site work at a Mary Kay facility.

 
 
 

Skills & Experience
Experience: 5+ years of Environmental, Health, and Safety
Education:  Bachelor/University Degree.  Must complete RCRA and Texas Hazardous Waste training course within 3 months of hire. 
 
 

  • Must possess a working knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental compliance requirements such as RCRA, EPCRA, SPCC, and NPDES and a broad knowledge of DOT regulations. Knowledge of OSHA health and safety guidelines and regulations is a plus.
  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must be able to quickly learn new technology/software to pull data, create reports, and/or prepare training materials and classes.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate ideas and properly describe problems and solutions. Able to communicate complex and technical information in a way that audiences can quickly understand the issues and opportunities.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment and immediately change priorities when needed.
  • Must be able to work independently with little direction and exercise sound judgment to carry out project-oriented work.
  • Must be detail-oriented, well organized, and possess the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with peers and all levels of management.
  • Ability to perform duties with judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Domestic travel required approximately 20% of time.

Working Conditions

  • While performing duties, could be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and outside weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; toxic or corrosive chemicals; and extreme heat. The noise level in the production areas is usually moderate to loud.
  • Must provide transportation for visits to other local Mary Kay facilities. 
  • May be on-call and possibly called to work at any time; day or night.
