Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM), with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, is a group of student housing professionals focused exclusively on the management of housing communities owned by non-profits and/or highly affiliated with a university.

Summary

The Senior Resident Assistant is a paraprofessional member of The Towers at CCNY and Capstone On-Campus Management; the SRA is responsible first to their supervisor, the Assistant Director, and second, to the Director. As a representative of The Towers at CCNY staff, the RA is responsible for positively contributing to a high-quality living experience for the Resident Assistants, as well as working closely with the Assistant Director in managing, developing and facilitating various programs and needs related to the Resident Assistants, as well as the Towers community. The Senior Resident Assistant (SRA) is an integral contributor to the professional staff team at The Towers, as well as the Resident Assistants. The SRA assists the Assistant Director in managing various tasks related to Housing and Residence Life. The SRA is essential in role-modeling leadership qualities, such as effective communication, teamwork, an understanding of ethical behavior and skills in conflict resolution. The SRA also has a clear understanding and, adheres to, Towers policies and expectations. The SRA will play a pivotal role in the development of the Resident Assistant team and must help foster their continued growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Attend all staff meetings, in-service, spring and fall training programs.
  • Attend individual meetings with their supervisor on a regular basis.
  • Make use of resources that will enhance the development of themselves, their residents and their fellow staff members.
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the Resident Assistants.
  • Maintain weekly communication with the Resident Assistants
  • Discuss and clarify on an on-going basis residential rules, regulations, policies and procedures to the Resident Assistants
  • Assistant Resident Assistant with Roommate Mediations and creating Roommate Contacts when necessary
  • Foster an environment in which people’s rights and differences are respected.
  • Mediate conflicts between residents and roommates. Keep supervisor informed of conflicts and the status of mediations. Seek guidance/involvement from supervisor before conflict escalates.
  • Have a working knowledge of the terms and conditions for residential living.
  • Ensure that necessary forms and reports are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Maintain and organize all paperwork related to the Programming Model
  • Assist the Assistant Director in maintaining paperwork and files related to conduct cases.
  • Serve as advisor for the Residence Hall Association Board
  • Oversee the RHA General Election and ensure its legitimacy.
  • Attend weekly or bi-weekly RHA board meetings.
  • Assist RHA Board Members in their development and facilitation of residence hall programs
  • Assist and be present for the Move-In and Move-Out Processes at the start and end of each semester and other periods as determined by the supervisor.
  • Involved in an overnight weeknight and weekend duty rotation shared among staff members.
  • Work fifteen (15) hours per week in a designated office location during the entire employment period.
  • The SRA contract begins June 1, 2024 and ends June 5, 2025. Mandatory Fall Training attendance will be required.
  • Other initiatives as needs are identified.
  • Serve in the on-call duty rotation with other Towers professional staff at the Professional Staff On-Call (PSOC) level. Shifts may range from three (3) to seven (7) nights depending on staff schedules.
  • On-call could include holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. Duty will be split on a rotating basis with the Office Coordinator and the Senior Resident Assistant.
  • Enforce Towers Policies and confront policy violations.
  • Assist with emergency evacuation procedures.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Be a currently enrolled full-time student at CCNY (enrolled in a minimum of 12 undergraduate credits or nine graduate credits), a current Towers resident, enrolled in 12 undergraduate credits or 9 graduate credits at a CUNY school.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 at the time of application and maintain this minimum GPA during the entire employment period.
  • Be at least of sophomore classification and have attended a CUNY school for at least one complete semester at the start of the employment period.
  • Be in good financial and judicial standing with The Towers, as well as his/her academic institution, at the start of the employment period and maintain good financial and judicial standing throughout the employment period.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, climb stairs and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Compensation

The Senior Resident Assistant will work fifteen (15) hours each week for a single room accommodation within a 3-bedroom apartment (estimated worth $20,000 per year). If the Senior Resident Assistant resigns or is terminated from the position, they must vacate their room and move out of The Towers within three business days. If eligible to reside at The Towers, they may sign a new Housing License Agreement and relocate to the new housing assignment within three business days of the end of employment. Senior Resident Assistant will work the remaining five (5) hours at a rate of $16.00 per hour (maximum of five (5) hours each week).
