Job description

Immediate Openings:
- One position is available with field operations assisting in the monitoring of park users during the days and hours of Monday - Friday, 4pm - 10pm and Saturday and Sunday, 8am - 10pm.
- One opening exists at Kinder Skills assisting in the classroom with a weekly schedule of Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- One position is available at the Diamond Bar Center supporting Facility Reservations.

These positions are classified as at-will/part-time with no benefits provided. Intermittent part-time positions average 19 hours per week and no more than 1,000 hours in a twelve (12) month period.

The Senior Recreation Leader, under general supervision, must have the ability to follow oral and written instruction, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, teens and/or adults, and the general public.Under the general supervision of one of the Recreation Supervisors, the Senior Recreation Leader will act as an on-site lead employee giving direction to Recreation Leaders and/or Volunteers; supervise frontline staff in sports activities, arts and crafts, games and play activities for youth and/or adults; professionally address and resolve issues with program participants, parents and staff; complete necessary reports, including facility checks, attendance reports, incident and accident reports, forms and documents; set up/take down tables, chairs, and other equipment for sports activities, classes or special events; may perform other duties as assigned; and assist in the planning and daily operation of the following programs/activities:
Youth Programs: Assist with Kinder Skills, Youth Day Camp, summer Volunteen Program, and DB4 Youth Program. Assist with planning major/minor excursions for the summer, monitoring program budget, scheduling staff, preparing weekly schedules and calendar, purchasing equipment and supplies, and working with programs participants and parents.
Youth/Adult Sports & Field Allocations: Assist in organization and scheduling of youth and adult sport activities, field allocations, and reservations of all City parks and fields for a variety of programs. Field operations will include: verifying athletic organizations' usage permits; Skate Park and facility opening and closing; communicating with all local sports organizations, monitoring of picnic and other facility reservations and use of ball field lights.
Special Events: Assist with the planning, scheduling and operation of annual special events including monitoring program budget, scheduling staff, preparing marketing material and calendar, purchasing equipment and supplies, and working with contracted and interdepartmental staff.
Facility Reservations: Assist in the reservation and operation of the Diamond Bar Center (DBC), Heritage Community Center, Pantera Activity Room and Picnic Reservations. Operation of the DBC includes maintaining a high level of customer service, and assisting in maintaining facility contracts, scheduling, marketing, logistics of contracts/reservations and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
Contract Classes: Arranges activity and event schedules given discussions with Recreation Supervisor; assist in the preparation of the Recreation Guide related to class schedules and programs for approval by management. Assist with fliers, and other promotional materials to advertise recreation programs/activities.
Senior Programs: Assist with scheduling and planning of senior classes and seminars, dances and special events, Senior & Community excursions and senior clubs. Provide information and referral services to the community on social service and related programs.May include but, are not limited to the following: Knowledge of theories, principles, practices, and programs common to the field of recreation and community services; modern office methods, practices, and procedures including operating a computer, calculator, telephone, and portable radio; supervision of part-time and volunteer staff; and techniques of marketing, budgeting and public relations and promotion for program area. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and make oral presentations; work well and collaboratively with other City departments and agencies with regards to division activities and programs; establish and maintain effective cooperative working relationships with City officials, supervisors, co-workers, and the general public; understand and respond to public and staff requests for assistance both on the phone and in person; prepare detailed and accurate narrative reports, perform complex numerical analyses and sort/file documents.
Education: At least one (1) year of college level work in an applicable field.
Experience: Two (2) years of work experience demonstrating responsibility and preferably in the field of recreation or customer service at time of application. One additional year of education can substitute for one year of the required experience.
Licenses and/or Certificates: Possession of a valid Class C or Class 3 California driver's license and an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment. Successful completion of certified AED, CPR and First Aid Safety Course is required after appointment.
Special Requirements: Ability to travel to different sites and locations. Must be able to work assigned schedules that include weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays. Must be able to sit for up to two (2) hours at a time, lift up to 50 pounds, and get from one location to another in the course of doing business.
