The CDFW Cannabis Restoration Grant Program is seeking a highly motivated Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) with a passion for conservation and collaboration and interest in contributing meaningful work to support a statewide team focused on the CDFW mission and shaping the cannabis Grant Program.
Under the general direction of the Cannabis Restoration Grant Program (CRGP) Supervisor, the Specialist serves in a lead role as part of a statewide team to develop and implement initiatives to increase the pace and scale of environmental restoration through coordination of granting and permitting activities. The Specialist will assist in creating measurable efficiency improvements, establish restoration priorities, update guidelines and criteria, track monitoring successes at the project and landscape levels, document ecological co-benefits arising from grant funded restoration projects using biological and environmental criteria, conduct site visits, engage with stakeholders and tribes, and lead outreach efforts. The Specialist is expected to work in an independent capacity while fostering team effort related to program implementation.

This position is a 12 month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
If you currently have permanent status in your position and have passed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position at the end of this LT appointment. If you have not had prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from state service.

Working Conditions
This position is eligible for the designation of Remote Centered with the option to telework three or more days per week. The incumbent will be required to report to the Sacramento or Fort Bragg office at the Office of Cannabis' discretion or as needed for special projects. Occasional travel is required within the state of California via private or public transportation (i.e., automobile, airplane, etc.). Travel may include multiple day overnight stay dependent upon departmental need. Field work will require CDFW approved apparel or uniform.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Special Skills: Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft software at an intermediate to advanced level for record keeping and grant tracking. Ability to utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and use spatial data to track projects, including performance measures. Possess knowledge and experience with cannabis regulations and environmental permitting in relation to cannabis, including CDFW Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreements, California Endangered Species Act, California Environmental Quality Act, State Water Resources Control Board water right permits, and Water Quality's waste discharge orders. Specified activities require knowledge of California fish and wildlife resources, ecological principles, lake and stream processes, applicable permitting and environmental laws, and CDFW administrative procedures and policies.
