Senior Planner/Project Manager (Grant Funded)

POSITION SUMMARY

Work under the direction of the Director of Housing and Community Development in advancing the overall planning and development and infrastructure agenda for the City, with a focus on fostering an equitable and resilient City through investments in physical and environmental infrastructure. The Senior Planner/Project Manager shall bring demonstrated practical experience in the community planning process and its component project management activities with a regard for neighborhood planning; environmental planning and project management; park and open space planning; streetscape and mobility infrastructure; and climate adaptation planning. Provide advice and expertise in project management, including consultant management, civic engagement, and the practical aspects of plan development and specifications. As designated, will represent the Director of Planning and Development with local, state and federal agencies, and general citizenry and business community on matters related to planning, transportation, open space, environment, and infrastructure concerns of the City. Responsibilities and duties encompass all actions that ensure task completion with quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

· BS/BA in Planning, Urban Studies, Transportation Planning, or a related field.

· Five years of similarly responsible experience in private or municipal/regional planning or a Masters and three (3) years of such experience. A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.

· This position requires a strong theoretical basis gained through education as well as practical experience, and knowledge of community planning and infrastructure funding mechanism and processes in the metropolitan Boston area.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

· Very good writing and communication skills.

· Ability to meet and deal effectively with local, state and federal government agencies, and the general citizenry and the business community toward project completion.

· Prior experience in plan review, project management, and GIS is helpful, as is familiarity with appropriate state regulations and procedures regarding planning, funding, and procurement, and in particular CDBG procurement and funding requirements.

· Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
