Work Arrangement

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Renaissance Ctr Global HQ, Detroit, MI or Mountain View Technical Center, Mountain View, CA , three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

  • Help to develop and execute the PR strategy for GM’s energy management, charging and EV education efforts, aligning planning and execution with communication objectives while supporting business goals.

  • Proactively identify media opportunities, trends and emerging topics to capitalize on and enhance recognition of GM’s charging, energy and EV education efforts.

  • Develop and implement innovative and unconventional PR strategies to generate buzz, capture attention. This includes leveraging out-of-the-box tactics, creative storytelling and modern communication approaches to effectively engage target audiences and enhance visibility.

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media and influencers to secure high quality coverage.

  • Respond to media inquiries with messaging that protects the company, delivering responses in a concise, accurate, and timely manner.

  • Create and distribute various communication content, including press releases, statements, talking points/briefings, proactive pitches, and supporting assets such as graphics, photos, and videos.

  • Develop broadcast, print and online media strategies and plans and pitches including press materials/assets to enhance reputation and awareness

  • Ensure alignment and consistency on communications efforts, key messages, launches, product lifestyle storytelling and media events and programs.

  • Help to prepare and execute crisis communication plans and/or reactive statements to address any potential issues or reputational challenges effectively.

  • Manage GM Energy executive media, event and conference engagements in key markets across the U.S.

  • Track and analyze data gathered from media outreach to optimize interaction with target audiences and expand reach.

  • Maintain media lists and other press materials.

  • The position works cross functionally with Investor Relations, Executive Communications, Internal Communications, Corporate Communications. Marketing and other teams globally, to ensure we deliver clear, consistent and persuasive messages to our stakeholders.

  • The successful candidate will be expected to move quickly to establish strong relationships with media, communications colleagues, and business partners. 

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to craft compelling messaging and content for various channels and audiences.
  • Self-motivated, creative, with a curious approach to storytelling and unconventional communication methods.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Firm understanding of the EV industry, automotive technologies and innovations. Passion for energy solutions, sustainability and driving positive change in the industry is a bonus.
  • Social media expertise and past experience working with influencers.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
  • Strong media relations skills and the ability to quickly cultivate relationships with key media, facilitate and manage stories and experience with setting up media interviews.
  • Has experience with crisis management, responding promptly and effectively to mitigate reputational risk.
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, or related field and 4-6 years of professional experience.
  • Automotive and/or EV-related communications experience preferred.

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington. 

  • The salary range for this role is $98,900 - $158,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
