About the Position

The Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications will promote, enhance and safeguard the firm’s reputation and positioning through the design and implementation of a strategic, integrated external and internal communications program. The role will have oversight and leadership of all marketing and communications initiatives and ensure consistent messaging across the firm and externally in the marketplace.

The role will work collaboratively with marketing and business development colleagues and attorneys to identify emerging trends and innovative ways to promote the firm and its successes both internally and externally. At all times, the Senior Manager will work to protect and manage the reputation of the firm (and by extension its relationships with clients) and will counsel lawyers and business professionals accordingly. This is a position with firm-wide responsibility thus travel to our 6 offices will be required.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing

  • Direct the development and execution of client communication programs, e-marketing strategies, and interactive campaigns to ensure alignment with firm and practice group goals
  • In coordination with the Marketing Engagement & Events Manager, responsible for the firm’s marketing technology stack and the data processed within. Responsible for maintenance and adoption of existing technologies, as well as working collaboratively with appropriate teams on the rollout of new technologies
  • In partnership with the Senior Coordinator, Creative Design + Brand Identity oversee the development and implementation of firm branding initiatives, including managing brand strategy, monitoring/tracking competitive landscape, and regularly auditing brand positioning
  • Manage the tracking and reporting of all marketing projects and investments
  • Manage firmwide marketing, communications and marketing technology budgets; develop and submit budget recommendations annually as part of the department budget process; negotiate vendor contracts and obtain appropriate financial and legal approvals in accordance with firm policies and procedures

Public Relations & Social Media

  • Oversee the management of the public/media relations strategy including coordination with outside PR agency
  • Write or edit and approve press materials (talking points, pitches, news releases, etc.), as well as certain other firm communications, including multi-media projects
  • In coordination with the Business Development team, ensure proactive outreach on topics of current business/legal interest and work with the PR agency to create media strategies that reflect the firm’s brand and positioning, disseminate key messages, and achieve the media coverage goals of the firm and practice groups
  • Serve as a firm spokesperson and primary point of contact for press inquiries, ensuring that positional conflict checks and alignment on recommended approach are achieved prior to responding
  • Monitor media coverage of firm and research on emerging trends/stories
  • Collaborate with the firm’s marketing content and creative teams to create and implement proactive external communications strategies and campaigns positioning Allen Matkins' attorneys as thought leaders, and utilizing a comprehensive range of tactics, including traditional earned media, social media, and content promotion and syndication
  • In coordination with Senior Digital Marketing Coordinator, oversee the development and execution of the firm’s social media strategies, policies, procedures and content 

Awards, Rankings and Surveys

  • Oversee the firm’s survey-response and market recognition programs, including managing the firm’s annual reporting to news agencies, firm, practice, attorney rankings and nominations and pursuit of award opportunities for clients and the firm
  • Coordinate tracking and posting of awards and rankings to bios, website, pitch templates and intranet

Website

  • Oversee maintenance of website content, including process for keeping updated information as it relates to practice descriptions, bios, news and events, and assist in the creation of new content

Internal Communications

  • Draft bi-weekly marketing and business development communication (What's Up Wednesday) and seek opportunities to improve it and other marketing/BD-related internal communications
  • Coordinate tracking and posting of awards, rankings, speaking engagements, events to intranet

Management

  • Manage team members, provide training and resources and regular check-ins, ensuring a high-level of performance and job satisfaction. Review performance, and provide development opportunities.

Education and/or Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required as is a minimum of 12-15 years of experience in roles of increasing responsibility within professional services marketing.

Qualifications:

  • Track record of execution – Highly adept at taking strategic plans and translating them into simple courses of action to be implemented.
  • Strong stakeholder management experience. 
  • Excellent writing and superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving and a positive can-do attitude.
  • Knowledge of AP Style and the ability to learn and apply the firm’s writing style guide.
  • Proven ability to deal with complex subject matter, such as legal or financial.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate own work and that of direct reports.
  • Polite, professional, positive and collaborative manner/ability to function in a collaborative organization and be a team player.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Compensation

Allen Matkins is an Equal Opportunity Employer and offers a competitive compensation & benefits package. The anticipated base salary range for this full-time role is $175,000 – $225,000 per year. Actual salary will depend upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, job-related skills, qualifications, and location. 

The base salary range displayed on the job posting reflects the estimated range for new hire salaries for the position. The actual offered base salary will be determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, job-related skills and qualifications. The pay range is subject to change at any time dependent on a variety of internal and external business factors.
